Chapter 9 - The Trial of the Century

Six months later, the trial of Natalie Voss began in federal court. The media dubbed it the "Trial of the Century." The courtroom was packed to maximum capacity with journalists, socialites, and curious onlookers.

Rosa took the stand on the third day. She was terrified, but she held her head high. When Natalie’s defense attorney tried to paint her as an opportunistic opportunist who engineered a pregnancy to extort the Harmon family, Rosa didn't flinch.

“I didn’t know Julian was rich,” Rosa testified clearly, looking directly at the jury. “I loved a man named Jay who drew sketches on napkins and walked me home in the rain. I raised his daughter on a maid’s salary without ever asking the Harmon family for a single dime. I didn’t want his money. I wanted justice for the man I loved.”

The turning point of the trial came when Ethan’s security team presented the forensic data from the gold button. The combination of Julian’s DNA and Natalie’s fingerprints was an airtight trap.

When the verdict was read, Natalie collapsed into her chair, sobbing hysterically. Guilty on all counts: First-degree murder, extortion, and destruction of evidence. She was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Victor Voss, caught in the web of financial crimes Ethan had uncovered, was arrested in the courtroom lobby just minutes later.

Justice had finally been served.
