Chapter 9 - Dismantling the Thorne

Over the next month, the underworld of New England witnessed a tectonic shift.
Damon Calas did not launch a bloody campaign of vengeance. Instead, he did something far more lethal: he used the law, his immense wealth, and flawless corporate strategy to completely purge the city.
Using the ledgers Eli had secured before his death, Damon handed over a massive, unredacted cache of evidence to the federal government. The Barretti syndicate was dismantled within weeks, their assets seized, their leaders indicted on RICO charges. Silvio Barretti would spend the rest of his natural life in a supermax prison.
The Marquetti empire was completely dissolved. Marcus Marquetti accepted a plea deal for corporate fraud and conspiracy, resulting in a fifteen-year sentence. Celeste, broke and disgraced, was forced to leave Boston entirely, moving to a small midwestern town under a strict probationary agreement, her days of high-society vanity gone forever.
But the biggest shock came when Damon announced the restructuring of his own empire.
He liquidated all secondary logistics assets—the grey-area shipping docks and private warehouses that had drawn the underworld to his door for decades. He transitioned the entire Calas corporate identity into a legitimate, transparent real estate and philanthropic venture foundation.

"I'm out," Damon told Leo one evening in his study, handing him a severance check that would ensure his security chief would never have to work another day in his life. "The shadow world belongs to anyone foolish enough to want it. I have a family to raise."
Leo smiled, a rare expression on his scarred face, and shook Damon’s hand. "It’s about time, boss."
