CHAPTER 2 – THE LIVE BROADCAST THAT EXPOSED EVERYTHING

CHAPTER 2 – THE LIVE BROADCAST THAT EXPOSED EVERYTHING
For one endless second, nobody moved.
The only sound inside the apartment was Kevin's sobbing.
Then Joyce jerked backward, coughing furiously as Helen threw the foul-smelling bag back into the gift box.
"You've lost your mind!" Joyce screamed, wiping her lips with the back of her hand.
"No," Helen replied, her voice frighteningly calm. "I finally found it."
Peter rushed between them.
"Helen! Apologize to my mother right now!"
Helen slowly turned toward him.
"Apologize?"
She pointed at the white gift box lying on the floor.
"Your mother wrapped garbage for our five-year-old son."
Peter clenched his jaw.
"You embarrassed her in front of everyone."
Helen stared at him as if she had never seen him before.
"Our son is standing there crying because his own grandmother wanted to humiliate him... and your first concern is your mother's pride?"
Before Peter could answer, George suddenly spoke.
"No."
Everyone looked at Helen's father.
"I've stayed quiet for five years because I didn't want to interfere in my daughter's marriage."
His voice shook with rage.
"But today ends that."
He walked toward Joyce.
"You are leaving."
Joyce laughed.
"You don't get to throw me out."
"I certainly do."
"This isn't your house."
George looked at Peter.
"It should have been your words, son."
Peter avoided his father-in-law's eyes.
At that exact moment...
Ding.
Ding.
Ding.
Every phone in the room vibrated at once.
Helen looked down at hers.
The notification read:
Joyce Whitmore started a Live Video in the Whitmore Family Group.
She frowned.
"I didn't start anything."
Joyce suddenly turned pale.
"My phone..."
Her eyes widened.
The screen was facing upward on the coffee table.
The camera was still recording.
More than seventy relatives were already watching.
Comments flooded the screen.
WHAT IS HAPPENING?
IS THAT KEVIN'S BIRTHDAY?
WHY IS JOYCE YELLING?
WHAT'S IN THE BOX?
Joyce lunged toward the phone.
George grabbed her wrist first.
"No."
She struggled violently.
"Give it back!"
Helen picked up the phone.
The livestream had accidentally captured everything.
Joyce forcing Kevin to answer questions.
The little boy's trembling hands.
The filthy "gift."
Kevin bursting into tears.
And finally—
Joyce proudly saying,
"A gift for the child who thinks he's king of the house."
The comments exploded.
SHE DID WHAT?
THAT'S A FIVE-YEAR-OLD!
THIS CAN'T BE REAL!
JOYCE, HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND?
One comment appeared from Peter's older brother, Daniel.
Mom... tell me that's fake.
Another followed from Aunt Rebecca.
I've defended you for years. I can't defend this.
Joyce's face drained of color.
"Turn it off!"
Helen didn't.
Instead, she lifted the phone so every viewer could clearly see Kevin.
The little boy had buried his face in Irene's shoulder, shaking uncontrollably.
Helen spoke directly into the camera.
"This is my son."
"He is five years old."
"Today his grandmother decided that his birthday should become a lesson in humiliation."
Silence filled the apartment.
Thousands of tiny hearts and angry-face reactions floated across the screen.
Then someone joined the livestream.
Harold Whitmore.
Peter's father.
Joyce's husband.
He had been overseas for nearly three months on business.
His face appeared in the corner of the screen.
"Joyce."
His voice was cold.
"What exactly am I looking at?"
Joyce forced a smile.
"It's being taken out of context."
Harold didn't blink.
"I watched from the beginning."
Nobody breathed.
Joyce's confidence cracked.
"It was just discipline."
Harold's expression hardened.
"You wrapped human filth for your grandson."
"I was teaching him humility!"
"You taught the entire family who you really are."
The comment section erupted again.
Peter rubbed his forehead.
"Dad... please..."
Harold ignored him.
Instead, he looked directly at his son.
"Peter."
"One question."
"Did you stop her?"
Peter opened his mouth.
Nothing came out.
Harold asked again.
"When your son cried..."
"...whose side were you on?"
The room became painfully silent.
Peter finally whispered,
"I... didn't think she'd go that far."
Helen closed her eyes.
There it was.
Not denial.
Not defense.
A confession.
He had known something was coming.
He had simply underestimated how cruel it would be.
She looked at him with tears she refused to let fall.
"You knew."
Peter reached toward her.
"Helen, listen—"
"You knew she planned to hurt our son."
"It wasn't supposed to—"
"Answer me!"
Her scream echoed through the apartment.
"You knew?"
Peter lowered his head.
"Yes."
Kevin looked up.
His tiny voice barely carried across the room.
"Daddy..."
Peter turned.
Kevin's cheeks were wet with tears.
"You knew Grandma was going to make me cry?"
That innocent question hit harder than any accusation.
Peter couldn't answer.
Because there wasn't one.
Kevin slowly stepped backward until he reached Helen.
He grabbed her hand with both of his.
His little fingers were ice cold.
"I don't want Daddy anymore."
The sentence shattered whatever remained of the celebration.
But Helen had no idea...
The real nightmare was only beginning.
Because while everyone stared at Peter in stunned silence...
Someone rang the apartment doorbell.
Three slow knocks.
Helen opened the door.
A uniformed police officer stood outside.
Behind him were two investigators carrying sealed evidence boxes.
The officer looked directly at Joyce.
"Mrs. Joyce Whitmore?"
"Yes..."
"We're here regarding multiple reports of child psychological abuse."
He paused before adding the sentence that made Joyce's knees nearly give way.
"And someone has just submitted over thirty videos recorded inside your home over the past four years."
May you like
The officer looked into her terrified eyes.
"We believe this birthday incident is only the beginning."
