CHAPTER 7 – THE TRUTH NO ONE SAW COMING

CHAPTER 7 – THE TRUTH NO ONE SAW COMING
Daniel couldn't breathe.
The laboratory report trembled in his hands.
Michael leaned closer and read the final conclusion again.
Probability of paternity: 99.9999%.
Daniel was the biological father of all three boys.
But that wasn't the shocking part.
Below it was another finding.
The three infants were not genetically identical triplets.
The laboratory director folded his hands.
"Mr. Whitmore... medically, they are triplets because they were born during the same pregnancy."
"But genetically..."
"They have two different biological mothers."
Daniel stared in disbelief.
"That's impossible."
"It is extraordinarily rare," the director replied. "But after repeating the analysis three separate times, we're confident in the results."
Michael frowned.
"Explain."
The director opened another folder.
"Two embryos shared Rebecca's DNA."
"The third embryo belonged to another woman."
Daniel's heart pounded.
"Could someone have switched an embryo?"
The director nodded.
"If your children were conceived through IVF, then yes."
Daniel closed his eyes.
He and Rebecca had struggled with infertility for years before turning to IVF.
The clinic had assured them every embryo had been verified.
Apparently...
Someone had lied.
Federal investigators immediately seized every record from the fertility clinic.
Within hours, auditors uncovered missing files, altered embryo logs, and erased surveillance footage.
One retired embryologist finally confessed.
Several years earlier, a senior administrator had secretly switched embryos for wealthy clients in exchange for millions of dollars from illegal adoption brokers.
The administrator's name stunned everyone.
Richard Bennett.
Claire Bennett's older brother.
The conspiracy had begun long before Rebecca ever became pregnant.
Claire hadn't entered Daniel's life by chance.
She had been waiting for years.
Detectives confronted Claire with the new evidence.
For the first time, she broke.
Between sobs, she confessed.
Richard had promised her half of Daniel Whitmore's fortune.
All she had to do was become indispensable after Rebecca's death.
Earn Daniel's trust.
Marry him.
Become the boys' legal guardian.
Then slowly remove anyone standing in the way.
"Rebecca wasn't supposed to die," Claire whispered.
"The medication was only meant to weaken her so she'd need long-term care."
"But something went wrong."
Daniel felt sick.
Rebecca hadn't died from fate.
She had died because of greed.
Michael asked the question everyone feared.
"Who was the biological mother of the third child?"
Claire looked down.
"I don't know."
"Richard kept those records himself."
Before investigators could question Richard...
News arrived.
He had boarded a private yacht the previous night.
By sunrise, it had disappeared somewhere in the Caribbean.
An international manhunt began.
Weeks later, a woman named Emily Carter walked into FBI headquarters carrying a faded envelope.
She had spent years searching for a child she believed had died during an IVF procedure.
DNA testing confirmed the impossible.
Emily was Noah's biological mother.
She collapsed into tears after meeting him.
Daniel watched quietly from across the room.
Emily reached toward the baby but stopped herself.
"I don't want to take him away."
"I just wanted to know he was alive."
Daniel gently placed Noah into her arms.
"He deserves to know the truth one day."
"So do you."
Both of them cried.
May you like
Not because they were enemies...
But because they had both been victims.
