chapter 6

chapter 6
Blinding white light filled the warehouse.
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
The flashbangs deafened everyone inside.
SWAT officers stormed through every entrance.
“Federal agents!”
“Drop your weapons!”
Gunfire erupted from both sides.
Bullets tore through wooden crates and shattered warehouse windows.
Alexander threw himself toward Mateo.
A bullet ripped through his shoulder.
He gritted his teeth but kept moving.
“No!”
Isabella screamed.
Alexander reached the boy just as another gunman aimed at him.
Before the trigger could be pulled…
Detective Morales fired.
The gunman collapsed.
“Move!”
She cut Mateo's ropes with a combat knife.
“Take your mother!”
Across the warehouse, Richard Sullivan calmly walked toward a hidden steel elevator.
Even with police surrounding him…
He never looked afraid.
Alexander saw him escaping.
“Richard!”
Ignoring the blood pouring from his shoulder, Alexander chased him.
The elevator doors began closing.
Alexander dove forward.
His hand caught the edge.
The doors reopened.
Richard sighed.
“I was hoping you'd survive.”
The two men faced each other inside the freight elevator.
No guards.
No witnesses.
Only years of betrayal between them.
“You killed my father.”
Richard nodded.
“Yes.”
“And now you'll finally understand why.”
The elevator descended deep beneath the warehouse.
The doors opened into an underground archive.
Rows of steel shelves stretched into darkness.
Thousands of paper files.
Hard drives.
Ledgers.
Photographs.
“This,” Richard said proudly, “is the history of our organization.”
“For fifty years.”
Alexander looked around in disbelief.
“If the police find this…”
Richard smiled.
“They won't.”
He pressed a hidden switch.
A countdown appeared on the wall.
05:00
Alexander stared at it.
“What is that?”
“Insurance.”
“The entire underground facility is rigged with explosives.”
“You can arrest me…”
“But you'll never keep the evidence.”
Upstairs, Detective Morales received an alert from the bomb squad.
“Captain!”
“They've detected explosives beneath the warehouse!”
“How long?”
“Less than five minutes!”
Morales grabbed her radio.
“Alexander!”
“Get out now!”
Static answered her.
The signal had disappeared underground.
Richard slowly pulled another pistol from inside his jacket.
“You always wanted the truth.”
“Now you can die with it.”
He fired.
Alexander ducked.
The bullet shattered a shelf filled with decades of financial records.
Boxes crashed to the floor.
Thousands of documents scattered everywhere.
Alexander tackled Richard.
The two men slammed into the concrete.
Richard was older…
But surprisingly strong.
They struggled for the pistol.
The countdown continued.
03:42
Richard laughed.
“Even if you kill me…”
“No one will ever know.”
Alexander glanced at the files covering the floor.
Then he saw it.
A faded photograph.
His father.
Standing beside Richard.
And between them…
A little girl with long dark hair.
Alexander picked it up.
His breath caught.
It was Isabella.
As a child.
He looked at Richard in disbelief.
“You knew her family before I did.”
Richard's smile vanished for the first time.
“She was never supposed to survive.”
Alexander realized the horrifying truth.
“This wasn't about money…”
“You've been planning this since we were children.”
Richard lunged again.
Alexander struck him with a steel pipe.
Richard collapsed.
The pistol slid across the floor.
Alexander grabbed it and aimed.
Richard looked up and smiled.
“You won't shoot.”
“You're your father's son.”
Alexander lowered the gun.
“No.”
“I'm the man who's going to make sure the world learns what you did.”
At that moment, Detective Morales and the bomb squad burst into the underground archive.
Richard tried to reach for a hidden detonator.
Mateo, who had followed despite orders, saw it first.
“Mr. Alexander!”
Alexander kicked the detonator out of Richard's hand.
Morales tackled Richard to the ground and handcuffed him.
“Richard Sullivan…”
“You're under arrest.”
The countdown froze at 00:41.
The bomb squad disconnected the firing circuit with only seconds remaining.
The warehouse fell silent.
Outside, as dawn broke over New York Harbor, paramedics treated Alexander's wounded shoulder while Isabella and Mateo embraced him tightly.
For the first time in seven years…
They were together without fear.
But Detective Morales walked toward Alexander holding a sealed evidence box recovered from the underground archive.
“There are thousands of files in there,” she said quietly.
“Enough to expose politicians, judges, CEOs…”
She looked him in the eyes.
“And one document suggests Richard Sullivan wasn't the real leader.”
Alexander frowned.
“What do you mean?”
Morales opened the box and removed a single page.
Across the top was written:
Project Phoenix
Underneath, one line was circled in red ink.
Supreme Director: Identity Classified
Alexander stared at the words.
Richard had only been a lieutenant.
May you like
The true mastermind…
Was still out there.
