Chapter 10 - THE VALE OF ROSES

Two years later, the gardens of the Vale Estate were in full bloom. Thousands of red and white roses lined the brick pathways, their fragrance filling the warm spring air as a gentle breeze blew off the Hudson River.
The property was filled with the sound of music and laughter. It wasn't a gathering of dark-suited capos whispering in the corners; it was a celebration of life. The legal transformation of the Vale family was complete. Under June’s leadership as CEO of Vale Global Logistics, the family’s shipping operations had been entirely modernized and legitimized, their revenues now generated from international trade contracts that were completely transparent and legal.
A grand marquee tent stood on the main lawn, where over three hundred guests—including city officials, business leaders, and extended family members—were celebrating the anniversary of the Rosemary Vale Foundation, a multi-million-dollar charity June had established to support missing and exploited children across the country.
June stood near the stone balustrade of the terrace, looking out over the crowd. She wore a stunning white silk dress, her long dark hair falling in soft curls over her shoulders. The tiny gold locket still rested against her collarbone, but it was no longer a secret shield; it was a badge of honor.
Vincent walked up beside her, wearing a sharp grey suit, a glass of champagne in his hand. He had grown into his role as the protector of the family's interests, his dangerous edge now channeled into executive security and corporate risk management.
"You know, the New York families still don't know what to make of you," Vincent said with a smirk, taking a sip of his drink. "They call you the 'Iron Rose' of New Jersey. They’re terrified of you because you dismantled Anthony Moretti’s old operations without firing a single weapon."
"Guns are clumsy, Vincent," June replied with a knowing smile. "Audits and contract exclusivity clauses are much more effective at destroying a rival."
"Can't argue with that," Vincent laughed. "The harbor has never made this much money, and for the first time in forty years, I don't have to look under my car for a device before I turn the key."
"June!" a voice called out from the pathway.
Dominic walked toward them, looking remarkably healthy and relaxed in a casual linen suit. The gray hair at his temples had gone completely silver, but his eyes were bright, filled with a deep, unshakeable contentment. He was no longer the terrifying Don Vale of Newark; he was a grandfatherly figure who spent his mornings tending to the rose gardens and his afternoons advising his daughter on corporate strategy.
He reached out, taking June’s hand and squeezing it affectionately. "The governor just arrived, June. She wants to thank you personally for the new development project at the Newark docks. They’re estimating it will create five thousand legitimate jobs in the North Ward."
"I’ll be right there, Father," June said, leaning over to kiss his cheek.
Dominic looked at her for a long moment, his eyes filled with a pride that words couldn't fully capture. He looked down at the tiny gold locket around her neck, then out at the beautiful, peaceful empire they had built together from the ashes of a thirty-year war.
"You did it, June," Dominic whispered, his voice tinged with a soft, emotional reverence. "You brought us home. You took our name out of the mud and put it where it belongs."
"We did it together," June said softly.

She turned back to the crowd, taking her father’s arm on one side and Vincent’s on the other. As they stepped down from the terrace into the warm sunlight of the garden, Harper Keene was officially a distant memory. She was June Rose Vale—a daughter who had been stolen, a child who had been sold, but ultimately, the woman who had conquered the underworld and turned an empire of shadows into a valley of roses.
The gates behind them remained closed to the world, but inside, the family was finally free.
