CHAPTER 6: A Son's First Cry, A Tyrant's Last Fall

CHAPTER 6: A Son's First Cry, A Tyrant's Last Fall
Outside, dawn began to break over Manhattan.
Rain still fell.
But the darkness was lifting.
Inside the operating room, a nurse gently placed the newborn into Genevieve's arms.
The little boy immediately stopped crying.
His tiny fingers wrapped around hers.
Genevieve smiled through tears.
"Hello..."
Her voice cracked.
"My beautiful boy."
Alessandro stood beside her, exhausted.
He had never seen anything more miraculous.
Dr. Hayes finally approached him.
"If you don't let me treat that shoulder..."
He pointed toward the blood-soaked bandage.
"...your son will meet his father in the intensive care unit."
For the first time that night, Alessandro almost laughed.
"Fair enough."
Across the room—
Federal agents placed handcuffs on Vincenzo.
The old man offered no resistance.
Instead, he looked at Alessandro.
"You still don't understand."
Alessandro met his gaze.
"Explain."
"I didn't create monsters."
Vincenzo smiled faintly.
"I simply gave ambitious men permission."
"No."
Alessandro shook his head.
"You gave yourself permission."
The old man said nothing.
"You murdered my father."
Silence.
"My grandfather."
Silence.
"Leo."
Silence.
"You destroyed my wife."
Silence.
"You tried to murder my son before he took his first breath."
Alessandro stepped closer.
"And despite everything..."
He looked toward Genevieve holding their baby.
"...you still lost."
Vincenzo followed his gaze.
For the first time in decades...
He looked old.
Truly old.
The agents led him toward the hallway.
Just before disappearing, he paused.
Without turning around, he asked quietly,
"What will you tell the boy?"
Alessandro answered without hesitation.
"The truth."

Hours later...
The hospital had fallen quiet.
Broken glass had been cleared.
The gunfire had become evidence.
News helicopters circled outside.
But inside the private maternity suite, only three people mattered.
Genevieve lay in bed, pale but recovering.
The newborn slept peacefully against her chest.
Alessandro sat beside them with his shoulder stitched and immobilized.
Neither spoke for a long time.
Finally Genevieve whispered,
"I almost robbed him of his father."
Alessandro looked down.
"I almost robbed him of his mother."
She reached across the bed.
Their hands met.
No dramatic speeches.
No instant forgiveness.
Just two people who had survived lies powerful enough to destroy empires.
"I'm angry," she admitted.
"I know."
"I'm still hurt."
"I know."
"I don't know if I can forgive everything."
"You don't have to today."
She nodded slowly.
"But..."
She looked at the sleeping baby.
"...I'd like him to grow up knowing who his father really is."
Alessandro's eyes filled with tears.
"I'd like that too."
At that moment, the baby opened his eyes.
Dark gray.
Almost identical to Alessandro's.
Genevieve smiled.
"What should we call him?"
Alessandro thought for several moments.
Then he answered,
"Leo."
She looked at him.
"In honor of the man who died trying to protect us."
Fresh tears rolled down Genevieve's cheeks.
She kissed the baby's forehead.
"Leo Romano."
The tiny boy yawned peacefully, unaware that before taking his very first breath, he had already survived betrayal, bullets, and a war that had consumed generations.
Outside the hospital, the first rays of morning sunlight broke through the storm clouds, casting golden light across Manhattan.
For the first time in seven months, Alessandro Romano did not feel like the feared head of a mafia empire.
May you like
He simply felt like a husband...
...and a father.
