CHAPTER 4: The Truth Buried for Thirty Years

CHAPTER 4: The Truth Buried for Thirty Years

Emergency backup lighting flooded the room in deep crimson.

Everything turned blood-red.

Machines switched to battery power.

The hallway outside became eerily quiet.

Too quiet.

Mateo immediately knew what it meant.

"They stopped shooting."

One Romano guard whispered,

"Why?"

Nobody answered.

Then...

Slow.

Measured.

Applause echoed down the hallway.

Clap.

Clap.

Clap.

Vincenzo walked through the destroyed doorway alone.

No bodyguards.

No gunfire.

Just a pistol in one hand.

A leather folder in the other.

He smiled warmly.

"As beautiful as I imagined."

Mateo aimed immediately.

"One more step."

"You'll shoot?"

"I promise."

Vincenzo chuckled.

"You won't."

He tossed the leather folder onto the operating table.

It slid to a stop in front of Alessandro.

"Open it."

Nobody moved.

"I said..."

His smile vanished.

"Open it."

Alessandro slowly reached for the folder.

Inside were photographs.

Hundreds of them.

His father.

Meeting secretly with Vincenzo.

His grandfather.

Signing financial transfers.

Leo Bellamy.

Smiling beside Romano soldiers.

Genevieve stared in disbelief.

"What is this?"

Vincenzo answered calmly.

"The truth."

He pulled another document free.

A birth certificate.

Not Alessandro's.

Leo's.

Father:
Antonio Romano.

The room fell silent.

Genevieve frowned.

"...No."

Vincenzo nodded.

"Yes."

"Leo wasn't merely your brother."

He looked directly at Alessandro.

"He was your half-brother."

Genevieve couldn't breathe.

"My father..."

"...had an affair with your mother."

Alessandro's hands began shaking.

"No..."

"He hid both children to avoid destroying the family empire."

Genevieve staggered backward.

"So Leo..."

"...and Alessandro shared the same father."

Tears streamed down her face.

"We..."

She couldn't finish.

Vincenzo did it for her.

"You married your own brother."

Silence.

Absolute silence.

Even Dr. Hayes stopped moving.

Genevieve let out a broken scream.

"No!"

The baby began crying again.

Alessandro looked as though the earth had disappeared beneath him.

"This is impossible..."

Vincenzo smiled.

"Is it?"

He produced DNA reports.

Old letters.

Bank transfers.

Photographs spanning decades.

Every piece appeared genuine.

Genevieve collapsed onto the bed, shaking uncontrollably.

"Our baby..."

She stared at her newborn son.

"Our baby..."

Alessandro couldn't speak.

Everything he'd believed about his family...

About his marriage...

About his identity...

Had shattered.

Only Mateo remained strangely still.

He looked at the documents.

Then at Vincenzo.

Then back again.

Something didn't fit.

Very quietly he picked up one photograph.

His eyes narrowed.

A date.

Printed in the corner.

His expression changed completely.

He looked toward Alessandro.

"Boss..."

"What?"

Mateo slowly smiled.

"It's fake."

Vincenzo's expression froze for the first time that night.

Mateo held up the photograph.

"This picture is dated October 2018."

He looked directly at the old consigliere.

"But your tie..."

He laughed once.

"...that designer didn't release this collection until 2021."

The room went silent again.

Vincenzo's smile disappeared.

Mateo tossed the photograph onto the floor.

"You forged thirty years of history..."

He raised his pistol.

"...and you just made your first mistake."

At that exact moment—

Every light in the hospital suddenly returned.

The elevators dinged.

Heavy footsteps thundered into the maternity wing.

A commanding voice echoed through the corridor.

"Federal agents! Drop your weapons!"

Vincenzo's face drained of color.

Because he recognized that voice.

And he knew...

someone he thought had died years ago had just walked back into his life.
