CHAPTER 4 — THE DOCTOR WHO DISAPPEARED

CHAPTER 4 — THE DOCTOR WHO DISAPPEARED
The next morning...
Adrian's private investigation team filled the mansion's conference room.
Former detectives.
Cybersecurity experts.
Financial analysts.
People who had exposed billion-dollar fraud.
Adrian stood before them.
"This is no longer a missing-person case."
He placed Lily's forged documents on the table.
"It's a conspiracy."
A photograph of a newborn appeared on the screen.
"My daughter."
He paused.
"Find her."
"No budget."
"No limits."
"No excuses."
Twenty investigators immediately began working.
Within hours...
The first discoveries arrived.
Every record connected to Lily's hospital stay had been altered.
Digital files had been accessed repeatedly by someone using executive authorization.
Security footage from the maternity ward?
Deleted.
Visitor logs?
Missing.
Nurse schedules?
Rewritten.
One investigator looked up.
"Sir..."
"This wasn't random."
"It was coordinated."
Then another analyst spoke.
"We traced the authorization code."
Adrian leaned forward.
"To who?"
The room became quiet.
"The administrator who approved every record change..."
"...was Helena Whitmore."
Lily covered her mouth.
Even though she'd suspected it...
Hearing proof felt different.
Adrian simply nodded.
"I expected as much."
"But there's more."
The analyst enlarged one payment record.
Three million dollars.
Transferred five years ago.
Recipient:
Reed Medical Consulting.
Adrian recognized the name instantly.
"Dr. Marcus Reed."
Meanwhile...
Dr. Reed was packing a suitcase.
His hands shook uncontrollably.
He kept looking toward the front door.
Someone was coming.
He knew it.
A knock echoed through the house.
Three slow knocks.
His face turned pale.
"It's too late..."
he whispered.
When he opened the door...
It wasn't Helena.
It was Adrian.
Behind him stood two private security officers.
"Doctor."
Reed looked ready to collapse.
"I've been expecting this day."
Adrian stepped inside.
"I only need one answer."
The old doctor sank into a chair.
"I've carried this guilt for five years."
He covered his face.
"I don't sleep anymore."
Adrian's voice remained controlled.
"My daughter."
"What happened?"
The doctor burst into tears.
"I never signed a death certificate."
Adrian froze.
"What?"
"The document was created after I refused."
"Who signed it?"
Reed whispered a single name.
"Helena."
The room went silent.
"I told her I wouldn't help steal a child."
Adrian felt rage unlike anything he had ever known.
"Steal?"
Reed nodded.
"The baby was perfectly healthy."
"Lily never lost her daughter."
Adrian's hands began to shake.
"Where is she?"
"I don't know."
"I swear."
"Helena took the baby herself."
"And after that..."
"I never saw her again."
Just then—
A deafening explosion shattered every window in the house.
Glass rained across the living room.
The investigators threw Adrian and the doctor to the floor.
Outside...
A black SUV sped away through smoke.
Dr. Reed looked toward the shattered doorway in horror.
"They found me..."
Blood spread rapidly across his white shirt.
A sniper's bullet had pierced the window during the explosion.
Adrian grabbed him.
"Stay with me!"
The doctor coughed violently.
With his final breath, he clutched Adrian's sleeve and whispered,
"There was... another woman..."
"She raised... your daughter..."
"Find..."
He never finished the sentence.
His hand fell limp.
Outside, the SUV disappeared into the morning traffic.
Inside the ruined house, Adrian slowly stood, his face streaked with blood from the broken glass.
He looked toward the road where the assassins had escaped.
Then he made a promise that every person involved would soon regret.
May you like
"They didn't just murder a witness."
"They declared war."
