Chapter 10 - A New Kingdom

The sun was setting over the Tuscan valley, casting a warm, amber glow over the villa’s stone terrace. A long wooden table was set for dinner, laden with fresh pasta, homemade bread, and bottles of wine from their own vineyard.

Lily was sitting at the table, carefully drawing a picture of a large stone house with three people standing outside, holding hands under a massive, smiling sun.

Elena walked out of the kitchen, carrying a bowl of fresh fruit. Vincent stepped up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist and burying his face in the crook of her neck. She smelled of lemons, olive wood, and home.

"You're quiet tonight," Elena whispered, turning in his arms to look up at him.

Vincent reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, velvet box. He opened it to reveal a simple, elegant ring—not a giant, flashing diamond meant to show off wealth to the Chicago elite, but a beautiful, timeless emerald that matched the color of the Tuscan hills.

"I spent my whole life trying to rule a city, Elena," Vincent said, his voice thick with emotion. "But I was dying in the dark. You and Lily... you brought me into the light. You saved my life. Will you marry me? For real this time. No alliances, no contracts. Just love."

Elena’s eyes filled with tears, beautiful and bright. She leaned up on her tiptoes and threw her arms around his neck.

"Yes, Vincent. A thousand times, yes."

From the table, Lily looked up from her drawing, a massive smile spreading across her face. She took off her old Chicago Cubs cap and tossed it into the air.

"Does this mean we’re officially a family?" Lily asked, running over to wrap her arms around both of their legs.

Vincent knelt down, pulling his daughter and his future wife into a tight, warm embrace. The cold that had once threatened to consume his life was entirely gone, replaced by the unbreakable, radiant warmth of the family he had finally found.

"Yes, Lily," Vincent whispered, kissing the top of her head. "We are a family. And nothing will ever change that."

The stars began to blink awake over the quiet Italian countryside, watching over a man who had traded an empire of blood for a kingdom of love.
