EPILOGUE
Five years later, Deborah was invited to speak to new nurses at a hospital orientation program.
She stood before a room full of young healthcare professionals.
In the front row sat Dr. Elizabeth Warren, whose reputation had been fully restored after the investigation proved she had been framed.
Deborah held up a simple photograph.
It showed an eight-year-old girl lying beneath a hospital bed, protecting her baby brother.
"You'll spend your careers learning how to save lives," Deborah began.
"But never forget something equally important."
"Patients trust you when they are at their weakest."
"That trust is sacred."
She paused before smiling toward Lily, now sitting in the audience beside Thomas.
"My daughter taught me something no medical textbook ever could."
"Courage doesn't always come from the strongest person in the room."
"Sometimes..."
"It comes from a frightened little girl who loves her family enough to whisper four words."
Deborah looked at Lily.
Lily smiled through tears.
Deborah repeated the words that had changed all of their lives forever.
"Mom... get under the bed."
The room rose in a standing ovation.
Because everyone understood one simple truth:
Miracles are not only the children we pray for.
Sometimes...
May you like
They are the children who save us.
THE END.
