CHAPTER 7 — The Secret Her Father Took to the Grave

CHAPTER 7 — The Secret Her Father Took to the Grave

Olivia barely slept.

Marcus had arranged a secure apartment owned by a retired federal agent. The location wasn't listed under any government database, and only three people knew it existed.

Even so, she woke every hour.

Every creak of the building made her reach for the pepper spray Marcus had given her.

At 6:15 a.m., someone knocked.

Three short knocks.

Two long.

The signal Marcus had promised.

She opened the door.

Instead of Marcus...

she found an elderly woman with kind blue eyes carrying a weathered leather box.

"My name is Eleanor Bennett," the woman said softly.

Olivia frowned.

"I'm sorry... Bennett?"

The woman smiled sadly.

"I was your father's older sister."

Olivia's heart skipped.

"My father told me he was an only child."

"He lied."

"Why?"

"To keep you alive."

Marcus arrived moments later.

"I didn't know she was coming," he admitted.

Eleanor placed the leather box on the kitchen table.

"It can't wait any longer."

Her hands trembled as she unlocked the brass latch.

Inside were old photographs, handwritten journals, land deeds, and a yellowed envelope sealed with red wax.

Olivia picked up the envelope.

Across the front, in her father's handwriting, were six words:

For Olivia—Only If I'm Gone.

Tears filled her eyes.

With shaking hands, she broke the seal.

Inside was a handwritten letter.

My sweet Olivia,

If you're reading this, it means I failed to protect you.

The Parkers never wanted our money.

Money was only the bait.

What they truly wanted is hidden beneath the Bennett property.

For thirty years I kept the proof safe.

If they ever discover its location, innocent people will suffer.

Trust no one except Eleanor.

And never let Richard Parker reach the old chapel.

Olivia looked up, stunned.

"What proof?"

Eleanor reached deeper into the box and removed a faded map.

A red circle marked a tiny abandoned chapel outside Nashville.

"There."

Marcus leaned over the map.

"What is this place?"

"It belonged to your grandfather."

Olivia traced the red circle with her finger.

"My father never mentioned it."

"He couldn't."

Eleanor's voice cracked.

"Because that's where he buried everything Richard Parker spent decades trying to destroy."

Marcus immediately contacted a trusted FBI agent who had worked organized crime for years.

"No phones," he warned.

"No emails."

"If Richard learns we're moving, he'll get there first."

They agreed to leave before sunset.

What none of them realized...

was that someone had already seen Eleanor enter the safe house.

Across the street, hidden inside a parked delivery van, a tiny camera transmitted live video.

Miles away, Richard Parker watched the feed without blinking.

He smiled as Olivia unfolded the old map.

"There it is," he murmured.

He turned to Ethan.

"Prepare the men."

Ethan looked at the screen.

"They're going to the chapel."

Richard nodded.

"Exactly where I wanted them to go."

For the first time since Olivia escaped, Richard looked pleased.

"She thinks she's hunting us."

He smiled coldly.

May you like

"But she's carrying the key to the one thing we've been searching for... for thirty years."

As armed SUVs rolled out of the Parker estate toward the abandoned chapel, Olivia had no idea that the letter her father left behind contained one final secret—one that would reveal why her family had been targeted for decades, and why the confrontation waiting at the chapel would determine not only her future, but the fate of everyone connected to the Parker empire.
