CHAPTER 5 – THE SON THEY STOLE

CHAPTER 5 – THE SON THEY STOLE

The words struck Alejandro harder than any bullet ever could.

"...Our son?"

His voice barely escaped his lips.

Elena closed her eyes.

For three years she had prayed this moment would never come—not because she feared Alejandro, but because she feared the truth.

Slowly, she nodded.

"Yes."

The room fell deathly silent.

Alejandro searched her face, desperate for some sign that he had misunderstood.

"But..."

He swallowed hard.

"We never had children."

A tear rolled down Elena's cheek.

"We almost did."

Three years earlier...

Only two weeks before Elena disappeared, she had discovered she was pregnant.

She wanted to surprise Alejandro after his return from an international business trip.

She had even bought a tiny pair of baby shoes.

Hidden inside the nursery they planned to renovate together.

But she never got the chance.

The night she was kidnapped...

Everything changed.

"I told Vivian I was pregnant."

Elena's voice trembled.

"I thought she might have mercy."

A bitter smile crossed her lips.

"I was wrong."

Alejandro's hands began to shake.

"What did she do?"

Elena looked down at her scarred wrists.

"She said..."

"'Now I finally have something valuable.'"

The sentence made everyone in the room shiver.

For months Elena remained imprisoned in the hidden basement.

A doctor visited regularly.

Always the same doctor.

Dr. Ricardo Salazar.

He monitored the pregnancy.

Administered medication.

Performed examinations.

And never once treated Elena like a human being.

Only an investment.

Only a vessel.

Alejandro struggled to breathe.

"Our baby..."

Elena nodded slowly.

"I gave birth."

His knees nearly gave way.

"You... you gave birth?"

She covered her face as years of suppressed grief exploded from within her.

"I never even held him."

The mansion echoed with her sobs.

"They took him away before I could touch him."

"I only heard him cry once."

"Just once."

"And then..."

"He disappeared."

Alejandro wrapped his arms around her.

For the first time in three years...

She allowed herself to collapse completely.

Every servant watching quietly wiped away tears.

Even seasoned security officers looked away.

No one could remain untouched by a mother's heartbreak.

At that moment—

One of the investigators rushed into the room.

"Sir!"

He carried another evidence box recovered from a fireproof safe beneath the collapsed basement.

"It survived the explosion."

Inside were hospital records.

Birth certificates.

DNA reports.

Alejandro immediately opened the first folder.

His breathing stopped.

INFANT: MALE

Date of Birth: August 14

Mother: Elena Castillo

Father: Alejandro Castillo

Status...

His eyes locked on the final line.

Transferred to Guardian: V.M.

Alejandro slowly looked up.

"Vivian Moretti."

The investigator nodded.

"She signed the transfer documents."

Elena covered her mouth in horror.

"No..."

Alejandro turned toward Vivian, who was now handcuffed between two security officers.

"Where is my son?"

Vivian smiled.

"You'll never find him."

Alejandro stepped closer.

"Where?"

"You searched Europe for three years."

She laughed.

"And all along..."

"He was much closer than you think."

Before anyone could question her further—

Vivian suddenly collapsed.

Foam appeared at the corner of her mouth.

The guards shouted.

"She's swallowed something!"

Doctors rushed forward.

But within seconds they discovered the truth.

Hidden inside a ring on her finger...

Vivian had carried a cyanide capsule.

She had tried to silence herself forever.

Fortunately...

They were seconds too late.

Emergency physicians managed to stabilize her.

She survived.

Barely.

But she remained unconscious.

And with her...

The location of Alejandro and Elena's son.

That night...

Alejandro couldn't sleep.

He sat beside Elena's hospital bed.

She had finally agreed to receive medical treatment after years of refusing out of fear.

The room remained quiet.

Until Arthur, the elderly butler, knocked softly.

"Sir..."

"I remembered something."

Alejandro looked up immediately.

Arthur's hands trembled.

"The night the baby was born..."

"I heard Vivian arguing with someone."

"What did she say?"

Arthur closed his eyes, recalling every word.

"She said..."

"'Take the boy to Blackwood.'"

Alejandro frowned.

"Blackwood?"

Arthur nodded.

"I never knew what it meant."

"But she repeated it several times."

Alejandro immediately called his investigation team.

"Find every place, company, hospital, school, orphanage, or estate connected to the name Blackwood."

The race against time had begun.
