CHAPTER 4 – THE TRAITOR UNDER THE ROOF

CHAPTER 4 – THE TRAITOR UNDER THE ROOF
The mansion fell into absolute silence.
Every servant instinctively looked at one another.
Fear spread faster than the smoke.
Someone here...
Had betrayed Elena.
Someone had watched her suffer for three years.
Someone had smiled at Alejandro every single day while hiding the truth.
Alejandro closed the diary.
His expression became frighteningly calm.
"Nobody leaves."
His security chief immediately locked every entrance electronically.
Metal security shutters slammed over the windows.
Phones were confiscated.
Vehicles disabled.
The mansion became a sealed crime scene.
Vivian laughed.
"You really think you'll find them?"
"You never noticed anything."
"What makes you think you'll notice now?"
Alejandro ignored her.
Instead, he faced the servants.
"I'll ask only once."
"If anyone helped my wife under threat..."
"I can still protect you."
"But if you lied willingly..."
His voice became ice.
"I will bury you with everyone responsible."
No one spoke.
Then—
A quiet voice came from the back.
"I know something."
It was Sofia.
The youngest maid.
Only nineteen years old.
She stepped forward, trembling.
"I wasn't here when Mrs. Elena disappeared."
"I arrived two years ago."
"But..."
Vivian's eyes widened.
"Sofia!"
"Be quiet!"
Sofia burst into tears.
"I can't anymore!"
She reached into her apron pocket.
Inside was an old USB drive.
"I found this hidden behind one of the laundry pipes."
"I was too scared to tell anyone."
Alejandro took it carefully.
"When did you find it?"
"Six months ago."
"Who hid it?"
Sofia pointed toward Elena.
"She did."
Elena slowly nodded.
"I thought someday..."
"...someone kind would find it."
The security team immediately connected the USB to a secure laptop.
The screen flickered.
A hidden camera recording appeared.
The timestamp read:
Three years ago.
The video showed the basement.
Elena sat tied to a chair.
Vivian paced in circles.
Then another figure entered.
The room collectively gasped.
Alejandro felt the blood drain from his face.
"No..."
It couldn't be.
The man in the video walked directly toward Elena...
Placed a hand gently on her shoulder...
Then injected another syringe into her arm.
He turned toward the hidden camera for just one second.
Long enough for everyone to recognize him.
Alejandro's trusted family physician.
Dr. Ricardo Salazar.
The same doctor who had spent three years comforting Alejandro...
Prescribing sleeping pills for his grief...
And repeatedly assuring him that Elena had almost certainly died.
The video continued.
Vivian smiled at the doctor.
"Increase the dosage."
"I don't want her remembering too much."
Dr. Salazar answered without emotion.
"She'll forget her own name soon."
Then he asked a question that froze everyone.
"And what about Alejandro?"
Vivian laughed softly.
"He still believes he's searching for her."
The doctor smiled.
"Good."
"A desperate man is much easier to manipulate."

The recording ended.
Alejandro stood motionless.
Then his phone rang.
The caller ID displayed only one word:
UNKNOWN.
He answered.
A distorted voice whispered:
"You've discovered only half of the truth."
Alejandro's heart pounded.
"What do you mean?"
The caller chuckled.
"Ask your wife..."
"...why Vivian kept her alive instead of killing her."
The line went dead.
Alejandro slowly turned toward Elena.
She had gone completely pale.
Terror filled her eyes.
She whispered only four words.
May you like
"Because... of our son."
The room erupted in stunned silence.
