CHAPTER 6 — THE DNA THAT EXPOSED EVERY LIE

CHAPTER 6 — THE DNA THAT EXPOSED EVERY LIE

The following morning Alexander sat alone in his hotel room.

He stared at one business card.

Rivera Financial Solutions.

He had found his family.

Now he had to earn the right to stand near them.

If that was even possible.

Three days later Isabella agreed to meet him.

Not because she wanted to.

Because Gabriel deserved answers.

They met inside a family counselor's office.

Neutral ground.

Safe ground.

Gabriel colored quietly in another room while the adults talked.

Alexander spoke first.

"I deserve your hatred."

"Yes."

"I deserve your anger."

"Yes."

"But I need to know."

He struggled to breathe.

"Is Gabriel my son?"

Isabella closed her eyes.

"I've never been with another man."

The room became painfully quiet.

"So yes."

Alexander covered his face.

A sob escaped before he could stop it.

Six years.

Gone forever.

"I'm sorry."

She looked at him calmly.

"Sorry doesn't change first birthdays."

"Sorry doesn't teach a little boy how to ride a bicycle."

"Sorry doesn't erase six years."

"I know."

"No."

She shook her head.

"You don't."

The counselor interrupted gently.

"There is one practical matter."

She placed paperwork on the table.

"If legal parental rights become part of this discussion..."

"...DNA confirmation will eventually be required."

Alexander nodded immediately.

"I'll do it."

Isabella looked at Gabriel through the window.

Then whispered,

"I have nothing left to hide."

The test was completed that afternoon.

Waiting took ten endless days.

Neither parent slept much.

Gabriel knew only that doctors had asked for a cheek swab.

He thought it was funny.

Adults knew it could rewrite lives.

On the tenth morning the laboratory emailed the report.

Alexander and Isabella opened it together.

Probability of paternity:

99.9999998%.

Biological relationship:

Confirmed.

Alexander stared at the screen until the words blurred.

His knees gave out.

He sank into the chair.

"My son..."

Across the table Isabella silently cried.

Not because she doubted the result.

Because it made everything even more tragic.

The impossible child.

The miracle they had prayed for.

The baby everyone believed would never exist.

Had existed all along.

That same afternoon, nearly a thousand miles away in Beverly Hills, Grace Whitmore was hosting another charity gala when her phone rang.

It was Alexander.

His voice was frighteningly calm.

"The DNA results came back."

Grace smiled.

"I told you chasing ghosts was unhealthy."

"There was no ghost."

Silence.

"I have a son."

The champagne glass slipped from Grace's hand and shattered across the marble floor.

"No..."

"He was already alive when you threw Isabella out."

Her breathing became frantic.

"Alexander, listen to me—"

"You stole six years from your grandson."

Guests turned toward the commotion.

Grace whispered,

"I was trying to save this family."

Alexander's answer was cold enough to end an empire.

"No."

"You destroyed it."

He ended the call.

Grace stood alone among broken glass, finally realizing that every cruel decision she had justified in the name of protecting the Whitmore legacy had done exactly the opposite.

The heir she had wanted so desperately had always existed.

May you like

And because of her hatred...

He had grown up carrying another man's name.
