CHAPTER 2: THE IMPOSSIBLE MAN

CHAPTER 2: THE IMPOSSIBLE MAN

The homeless man stared blankly at the teenager.

"Dad?"

The word echoed in his mind.

But it meant nothing.

The boy's tears wouldn't stop.

His hands shook as he pulled out his phone.

"Mom... please come. Right now."

Twenty minutes later, a silver SUV screeched to a stop.

A woman jumped out.

She took one look at the homeless man.

And collapsed.

The world around her disappeared.

Eight years.

Eight painful years.

Eight years since police officers knocked on her door and informed her that her husband, Michael Carter, had died in a boating accident.

His body was never recovered.

But the case was closed.

Legally.

Officially.

Final.

Yet here he was.

Standing only a few feet away.

Alive.

The woman burst into tears.

"Michael..."

The homeless man's eyes widened.

Something flickered across his face.

A memory.

A voice.

A photograph.

Then it vanished again.

May you like

"I... I don't know who that is."

Her heart shattered.
