Chapter 7 - THE LIE THAT COULDN'T BREAK A FATHER

The underground chamber fell silent.

Alejandro stared at the DNA report.

Every person in the room watched him.

Waiting.

Waiting for shock.

For rage.

For heartbreak.

For the destruction of a father's love.

Esteban leaned back in his chair.

"You understand now," he said calmly. "Victoria lied to you."

Lilia looked terrified.

"Daddy..."

Alejandro slowly lowered the papers.

His face revealed nothing.

Esteban smiled.

"The child isn't yours."

Still nothing.

No reaction.

No anger.

No tears.

The smile on Esteban's face began to fade.

Because Alejandro wasn't looking at the report anymore.

He was looking at Lilia.

At the little girl whose first word had been "Papa."

The little girl he taught to ride a bicycle.

The little girl who cried in his arms after her mother died.

The little girl he had caught when she fell from the balcony.

The little girl who trusted him more than anyone in the world.

Then Alejandro did something nobody expected.

He started laughing.

Not loudly.

Not wildly.

Just a quiet laugh.

Esteban frowned.

"What's so funny?"

Alejandro folded the DNA report and placed it on the table.

"You think this changes something?"

The smile disappeared completely.

"You raised another man's child."

Alejandro's eyes hardened.

"No."

He pointed toward Lilia.

"I raised my daughter."

For the first time, Esteban seemed genuinely unsettled.

Alejandro continued.

"A father isn't the man who shares DNA."

His voice echoed through the chamber.

"A father is the man who stays."

Lilia burst into tears.

"Daddy..."

"And I will always be your father."

The little girl's crying turned into sobs.

Even some of Esteban's men looked away.

Because they suddenly understood something.

This wasn't a business deal.

This wasn't a hostage negotiation.

This was a father protecting his child.

And fathers can be terrifying.

Esteban's expression darkened.

"How touching."

He snapped his fingers.

Immediately, armed guards surrounded Alejandro.

"Unfortunately, sentiment doesn't change reality."

Alejandro remained calm.

"You're right."

Esteban smiled.

"It doesn't."

Then Alejandro looked directly at his watch.

A small movement.

Barely noticeable.

But enough.

Enough for Esteban's smile to vanish.

Because suddenly alarms exploded throughout the facility.

Red lights flashed.

Sirens screamed.

One of Esteban's men rushed forward.

"Sir!"

"What is it?"

"The police!"

The man's face was white.

"They're everywhere!"

Esteban stood abruptly.

Impossible.

Alejandro had arrived alone.

That had been confirmed.

Unless...

His eyes widened.

The briefcase.

The evidence.

The tracker.

Alejandro smiled for the first time all night.

"Victoria taught me something."

"What?"

"Never walk into a trap without building a bigger one."

Gunfire erupted somewhere above.

Then came explosions.

Doors slammed shut.

Men shouted.

May you like

The entire underground complex descended into chaos.

The war had begun.
