CHAPTER 2 — THE RING FROM THE GRAVE
The jewelry store became silent.
No one moved.

Arthur Whitmore stared at the ring as though the past had suddenly returned.
Vanessa's hands trembled.
"What did you just say?" Arthur asked.
Vanessa swallowed.
"The ring was inside my mother's grave box."
The old man's face lost all color.
Sophie slowly stood from the floor, still holding her injured arm.
Ethan looked between them.
"What's going on?"
Arthur closed his eyes.
Then he whispered a name.
"Grace."
Vanessa froze.
It was her mother's name.
A name Arthur should never have known.
The elderly founder sank into a chair.
Forty years of secrets suddenly weighed on his shoulders.

The customers gasped.
Arthur pointed toward the engraving.
"2015. 2016. Tang."
Sophie frowned.
"What does Tang mean?"
Arthur looked at Vanessa.
"It wasn't a word."
His voice broke.
"It was a surname."
Vanessa felt her knees weaken.
"My mother's surname was Tang."
Arthur nodded.
Tears filled his eyes.
Because the truth he had buried for decades was finally coming back.
