CHAPTER 8 – A New Beginning

CHAPTER 8 – A New Beginning
Three months later...
Spring returned to the city.
Bloom & Stem had reopened.
The shattered windows were gone.
Fresh flowers once again filled the shop with color and fragrance.
Only one thing had changed.
Business was impossible to keep up with.
Customers arrived from across the country after hearing how the little flower shop had survived a mafia war.
Inside, Iris smiled as she arranged white peonies into a crystal vase.
Her pregnancy had begun to show.
She looked healthier.
Happier.
Someone wrapped a warm blanket around her shoulders.
"You'll catch cold."
She turned.
Nikolai.
He had traded expensive suits for a simple dark sweater.
"You worry too much."
He smiled.
"Doctor's orders."
She laughed.
"No."
"My orders."
Across the street, children played in the park.
For the first time in months, no armed guards stood beside them.
The war was over.
Lucien Renard had been arrested after members of the Black Wolves testified against him in exchange for reduced sentences.
Evidence connected him to decades of murders, corruption, kidnapping, and organized crime.
Celeste Renard disappeared from public life shortly afterward.
The Renard empire collapsed within weeks.
Victor Voss survived.
The explosion had left him with a permanent limp, but he refused to retire.
Instead, he shocked the city by announcing that every illegal business under the Voss organization would be dismantled.
"We built this empire with fear," he told the board.
"My grandson deserves something better."
Over the next year, the Voss fortune was transformed into legitimate companies, charitable foundations, and community investments.
For the first time in generations, the Voss name appeared in newspapers without the word "crime."
Six months later...
Labor began unexpectedly.
Nikolai drove like a man possessed.
Every red light became a suggestion.
Every minute felt like an hour.
At the hospital, Iris squeezed his hand so tightly he thought she might break it.
"You did this," she groaned.
"I know."
"You are never touching me again."
"Fair."
Fourteen exhausting hours later...
A baby's cry filled the delivery room.
The nurse smiled.
"It's a boy."
Nikolai held his son for the first time.
The tiny fingers wrapped around one of his own.
He had faced assassins.
He had survived wars.
He had negotiated with presidents.
None of it prepared him for this moment.
Tears rolled silently down his face.
Iris watched him with a smile.
"I've never seen you cry."
"You never will again."
She raised an eyebrow.
"You literally are."
He looked down at his son and laughed through his tears.
"Then don't tell anyone."
Epilogue – One Year Later
On the anniversary of the storm that had changed everything, Nikolai and Iris returned to the place where they first met.
Bloom & Stem.
The bell above the door chimed softly.
Just as it had that rainy evening.
Their little boy toddled between rows of roses, giggling as he tried to catch falling petals.
Nikolai wrapped an arm around Iris.
"You know..."
"What?"
"If it hadn't rained that night..."
She leaned her head against his shoulder.
"It still would have found us."
He looked at her with the same expression he had worn the first time she arranged red roses for him.
Only now there were no secrets.
No lies.
No arranged marriages.
No war.
Only family.
Outside, gentle rain began to fall once more.
This time, neither of them ran from it.

They stood together beneath the gray sky, watching their son laugh among the flowers, grateful that the life Iris had almost torn into pieces had instead become the beginning of everything they had ever wanted.
