CHAPTER 7 – Blood, Betrayal, and the Last Stand
The explosion shook the Voss estate like an earthquake.
The front gates, reinforced with steel and concrete, crumbled inward as two armored trucks burst through the smoke.
Gunfire erupted from every direction.
The Black Wolves moved with terrifying precision, cutting through the outer defenses while drones hovered overhead, transmitting live footage to Lucien Renard.
Inside the mansion, red emergency lights flashed across the marble halls.
"Lock down the east wing!" Victor Voss ordered.
"Protect Miss Beaumont!"
Security teams rushed into position.
Nikolai grabbed Iris's hand.
"We're leaving."
"I can't run that fast."
"You don't have to."
Without another word, he lifted her into his arms.
She protested instinctively.
"I'm too heavy."
"You are carrying my future."
He carried her through hidden corridors beneath the mansion while bullets echoed above them.
Behind them, Victor remained in the command center.
His chief of security looked at him.
"Sir, you should evacuate."
Victor calmly loaded an old revolver.
"I built this house."
He smiled faintly.
"I'm not leaving it."
Outside, the battle intensified.
Bodies covered the driveway.
The Black Wolves had underestimated the Voss family's private army.
But they had one advantage.
Someone inside the estate was feeding them information.
Every safe route.
Every security code.
Every camera blind spot.
Nikolai suddenly stopped.
"This tunnel..."
He frowned.
"They know it."
At that exact moment, the steel door ahead exploded inward.
Three Black Wolves stormed through.
Nikolai pushed Iris behind him.
The narrow tunnel erupted into chaos.
One attacker fell.
Another.
The third fired wildly before collapsing.
Silence returned.
Then Iris gasped.
"Nikolai..."
Blood dripped onto the stone floor.
A bullet had torn through his shoulder.
"I'm fine."
"You've been shot!"
"It's not important."
She grabbed his face.
"It is to me."
For a brief second, the war disappeared.
He leaned his forehead against hers.
"I promised I'd protect you."
"And who's protecting you?"
Before he could answer, Victor's voice came through the emergency radio.
"Nikolai..."
Gunfire echoed in the background.
"They found the control room."
"Father, hold your position!"
"No."
Victor's breathing grew heavier.
"They've already breached it."
Static crackled.
Then Victor spoke one final sentence.
"Take my grandson... and live."
The transmission ended with a deafening explosion.
"Father!"
No response.
Only silence.
Nikolai closed his eyes.
For one devastating moment, he believed Victor Voss was dead.
Meanwhile, inside the burning mansion, Lucien Renard walked calmly through the smoke.
He wasn't wearing body armor.
He didn't need to.
He believed victory was already his.
He reached the command room and smiled.
Victor Voss sat waiting.
A chessboard rested between them.
"You always did enjoy dramatic entrances," Victor said.
Lucien laughed.
"And you always preferred impossible odds."
The two old rivals stared at one another.
Lucien drew his pistol.
Victor slowly moved a chess piece.
"Check."
Lucien fired.
But the chair behind Victor exploded instead.
The old man had already disappeared through a hidden escape passage.
Lucien's smile vanished.
"You planned this."
Victor's voice echoed through hidden speakers.
"I've been planning for thirty years."
Suddenly, every exit sealed shut.
Steel doors slammed closed.
Gas flooded the corridors.
The Black Wolves panicked.
"What is this?"
Victor's voice remained calm.
"My house."
"My rules."
The elite assassins were trapped.

Within minutes, every surviving attacker surrendered.
The assault had failed.
