CHAPTER 6 – THE TAPE THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

CHAPTER 6 – THE TAPE THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

Sunrise painted Manhattan in pale gold.

News helicopters still circled the smoking remains of the warehouse.

Every major network carried the same headline.

Mystery Explosion Linked to Harrington Family.

Inside Michael's temporary command center, dozens of monitors streamed live intelligence.

Then…

The sealed government file arrived.

Escorted by two federal marshals.

One placed the heavy case on the table.

"This has remained classified for twelve years."

Michael looked at the security seal.

Broken only moments earlier.

He opened it.

Inside were financial records…

Photographs…

Witness statements…

And one VHS cassette.

Michael frowned.

"A videotape?"

Daniel nodded slowly.

"Your father trusted analog more than digital."

"They can't hack a tape."

An old player was quickly connected.

Static filled the screen.

Then the image sharpened.

Richard Harrington appeared.

He looked fifteen years younger.

Healthy.

Confident.

He spoke directly into the camera.

"If you're watching this… then Victoria has finally crossed the line I feared she would."

Michael couldn't breathe.

His father continued.

"For years I believed ambition was my wife's greatest flaw."

A pause.

"I was wrong."

The image changed.

Hidden camera footage.

Victoria meeting with men Michael had never seen before.

Cash exchanged hands.

Property deeds signed.

Then…

Dr. Andrew Bennett.

Accepting a thick envelope stuffed with money.

Michael clenched his fists.

The tape continued.

Richard's voice returned.

"If Emily disappears… it won't be an accident."

Emily covered her mouth.

He had known.

Years before it happened.

Another clip appeared.

Victoria speaking into a phone.

The audio crackled but remained clear.

"If Michael has a wife, he'll never be mine to control."

A second voice asked,

"And the child?"

Victoria answered without hesitation.

"No heirs. No witnesses."

Silence filled the room.

No one moved.

No one spoke.

Even the federal marshals looked horrified.

Michael's eyes filled with tears.

Not from grief.

From certainty.

He finally had proof.

Legal proof.

Enough to destroy Victoria forever.

Then…

The tape wasn't finished.

Richard looked into the camera one last time.

His expression became urgent.

"Michael… there's one truth I never told you."

He swallowed.

"Victoria isn't your biological mother."

The room froze.

Michael blinked.

"What…?"

Richard continued.

"She adopted you after your birth mother disappeared."

Emily stared at Michael in disbelief.

Richard's final words echoed through the speakers.

"And if Victoria learns you've discovered who your real mother was… she'll kill again."

The tape ended.

Static filled the screen.

No one spoke for nearly a minute.

Finally Daniel whispered,

"We've been fighting the wrong battle."

Michael slowly looked up.

"No."

His voice was calm now.

Colder than ever before.

"We've only just learned what the war is really about."

At that same moment, in a private jet climbing above the Atlantic Ocean, Victoria Harrington watched the morning news on a tablet.

The anchor announced that sealed evidence connected her to multiple crimes.

Victoria smiled.

"They finally opened the first file."

Her assistant looked confused.

"First file?"

Victoria turned toward the window.

"The second one is far more dangerous."

She picked up a satellite phone and gave a single order.

"Find the woman who gave birth to Michael."

May you like

Then she added quietly,

"Before he does."
