CHAPTER 3: THE SECRET

Daniel Hartwell ignored the driver completely.
His attention was fixed on his daughter.
He knelt beside her.
"Are you okay?"
Emma nodded through tears.
"My side hurts."
Daniel's jaw tightened.
One of the security guards immediately called for a medical team.
Only then did Daniel stand.
And look at the driver.
The man's confidence vanished instantly.
"Sir... I can explain."
Daniel said nothing.
He simply turned to one of his assistants.
"Pull the vehicle data."
The assistant opened a tablet.
Seconds later, his expression changed.
"Sir... there's something strange."
Daniel frowned.
"What?"
"The company vehicle's internal monitoring system shows this car shouldn't be here today."
The driver froze.
"What do you mean?"
The assistant looked at him carefully.
"The vehicle was reported at a client meeting across town."
Silence.
A heavy silence.
Then Daniel asked a question that changed everything.
"Who authorized this trip?"
Nobody answered.
Because everyone already knew.
Nobody had.

The executive had lied.
And suddenly, the bicycle accident seemed far less important than whatever he had been doing on Willow Road.
