CHAPTER 2 – THE WORD THAT STOPPED THE WEDDING

CHAPTER 2 – THE WORD THAT STOPPED THE WEDDING

No one breathed.

The wind whipped across the private runway, carrying the roar of the jet engines, but inside the invisible circle surrounding the four adults and two little girls, everything felt unnaturally still.

Amara looked from Dae to the twins.

She had rehearsed this moment a thousand times.

Every version had ended differently.

Some ended with Dae walking away.

Some ended with his men dragging her off the tarmac.

Some ended with bullets.

None of them had prepared her for the way he was looking at the girls.

Not with anger.

Not with suspicion.

With something far more dangerous.

Recognition.

Little Haru clutched the stuffed rabbit hanging from her mother's shoulder.

"Daddy?"

The tiny voice barely rose above the wind.

Every head turned.

The child wasn't looking at Amara.

She was staring directly at Dae.

Children understood things adults spent years denying.

She had seen the man's eyes.

She had seen them every morning in the mirror.

Amara's lips trembled.

"Haru..."

The little girl pointed again.

"Is... is he Daddy?"

Silence crashed over the runway.

It hit harder than any explosion.

One of Dae's security guards actually looked away.

Another quietly removed his earpiece.

Even they understood they were witnessing something that would change every life present.

Dae felt his heartbeat stumble.

Daddy.

No boardroom victory...

No billion-dollar acquisition...

No violent night surviving the underworld...

Nothing in thirty-two years had prepared him for one tiny girl asking that single question.

His throat tightened.

He couldn't answer.

He wasn't sure he deserved to.

Amara slowly knelt despite the twins still clinging to her.

She brushed Haru's hair from her face.

"Yes."

One word.

Barely audible.

Yet it echoed across the entire tarmac.

"He's your father."

Hana stared at Dae with wide, cautious eyes.

"The man in Mommy's picture?"

Amara froze.

Dae frowned.

"What picture?"

The older twin looked confused.

"The one Mommy kisses when she cries."

Amara closed her eyes.

"No..."

But children never knew when to stop.

"The gray picture."

"The one in the blue box."

"The handsome man."

The color drained from Dae's face.

She had kept his photograph.

For three years.

Miya finally found her voice.

"...You loved him."

It wasn't a question.

Amara said nothing.

She didn't have to.

Miya turned toward Dae.

"You told me she abandoned you."

"I believed she did."

"And now she shows up with your children?"

"Our children," Amara whispered.

The correction landed like broken glass.

Miya laughed once.

A short, empty sound.

"So tomorrow..."

She looked at the wedding ring sparkling on her finger.

"...I'm supposed to marry a man who became a father three years ago without knowing?"

No one answered.

Her expression slowly hardened.

She wasn't crying.

That frightened everyone more.

She looked toward the twins.

They were beautiful.

Innocent.

Completely unaware they had just detonated an alliance worth billions.

Miya inhaled deeply.

Then she looked back at Dae.

"Tell me something."

He met her eyes.

"When exactly were you planning to mention that your past could suddenly appear carrying your daughters?"

"I didn't know."

"I believe you."

Those words surprised him.

"But whether you knew doesn't matter anymore."

She glanced at the girls again.

"They're here."

Another long silence.

Then she slowly removed the enormous diamond engagement ring.

Every member of the security team instinctively straightened.

This wasn't just a relationship ending.

This was history shifting.

Miya walked toward Dae.

She placed the ring into his palm.

"I refuse to become the woman who stands between a father and his children."

His fingers instinctively closed around the ring.

"Miya..."

She shook her head.

"No."

Her voice remained calm.

Almost frighteningly calm.

"I can compete with another woman."

She looked at Amara.

"I cannot compete with two little girls who have your eyes."

The jet engines continued roaring.

The pilot leaned out of the cockpit window, confused by the delay.

Ground crew exchanged nervous glances.

Nobody dared approach.

Miya turned toward the aircraft.

Then stopped.

Without looking back, she said quietly,

"My father won't forgive this."

Dae understood immediately.

Neither would hers.

The Min family had arranged this marriage to strengthen their hold over Los Angeles.

Walking away now wasn't merely humiliating.

It was a declaration that the alliance was dead.

And dead alliances often led to wars.

She climbed the stairs alone.

Halfway up, she paused.

"I hope," she said softly, "they never have to learn what our families really are."

The cabin door closed.

Seconds later, the engines powered down.

The wedding flight was canceled.

News would spread before sunset.

Every syndicate...

Every investor...

Every politician connected to either family...

Would know.

Dae Han had abandoned the wedding.

For twins no one knew existed.

He turned back toward Amara.

The softness disappeared from his face.

Only cold steel remained.

"Everyone leaves."

His security team hesitated.

"Sir—"

"I said everyone."

Within moments, the tarmac emptied.

Only Dae.

Amara.

Hana.

Haru.

The family that should have existed three years earlier.

For nearly a minute, no one spoke.

Finally Dae walked forward.

Slowly.

Carefully.

He stopped directly in front of Hana.

He crouched until their eyes met.

She didn't smile.

She studied him exactly the way he studied strangers.

Suspicious.

Observant.

His daughter.

He swallowed.

"Hello."

The little girl hid slightly behind Amara.

Haru, however, leaned forward.

"Are you really our daddy?"

His voice cracked for the first time in years.

"...Yes."

The little girl reached out with tiny fingers and touched his cheek.

"So..."

she whispered,

"why didn't you come find us?"

The question shattered him.

Before he could answer—

A black armored SUV burst through the outer security gate.

Its tires screamed across the pavement.

Dae spun instantly, every instinct turning lethal.

His guards drew weapons.

The SUV hadn't stopped before armed men poured out.

Not Dae's men.

Not airport security.

Men wearing the crimson phoenix emblem.

The symbol of the Min family.

One stepped forward, speaking into a phone.

"Chairman Min..."

he said loudly enough for everyone to hear.

"We found him."

He lowered the phone.

"The wedding is over."

A cold smile spread across his face as he looked at the twins.

May you like

"But it appears..."

"...the punishment is just beginning."
