CHAPTER 6 — THE VIDEO THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

CHAPTER 6 — THE VIDEO THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

No one spoke as Arthur inserted the flash drive into his encrypted laptop.

The video contained only one file.

October14_BackGate.mp4

Timestamp:

11:47 p.m.

The Whitman mansion's rear security camera overlooked the private garage.

The image was grainy.

Rain poured heavily.

Then—

Headlights appeared.

A damaged black SUV rolled slowly through the gate.

Richard leaned closer.

"That's Natalie's car..."

The driver's door opened.

A young woman stumbled out.

Bleeding.

Disoriented.

Alive.

Natalie.

Richard covered his mouth to stop himself from crying out.

"My God..."

She had survived.

She had made it home.

The video continued.

Natalie collapsed onto the wet pavement.

Barely conscious.

She tried reaching for her phone.

Moments later another vehicle entered the driveway.

Linda stepped out.

Perfectly dressed despite the storm.

She rushed toward Natalie.

Richard whispered,

"Help her..."

Instead—

Linda picked up Natalie's phone.

Turned it off.

Removed the battery.

Then crouched beside the injured young woman.

The camera had no audio.

But her lips were visible.

Arthur slowed the footage.

Frame by frame.

Using forensic enhancement software, he reconstructed the sentence.

Linda had said:

"Richard can never know you survived."

Richard's knees gave out.

Arthur caught him before he hit the floor.

The footage became even more horrifying.

An ambulance arrived.

But not a city ambulance.

A private medical transport.

No emergency lights.

No police.

Two men loaded Natalie inside.

Still alive.

Still moving.

Richard stared in disbelief.

"Where did they take her?"

Arthur rewound the video.

One detail stood out.

The company logo on the ambulance.

Daniel immediately recognized it.

"I know that company."

Richard looked up.

"They shut down eighteen months ago."

"Can we trace them?"

Daniel nodded slowly.

"If records still exist."

Meanwhile, at the hospital, Natalie slept peacefully.

Her dreams became clearer.

She remembered rain.

Pain.

Linda's face.

Then...

Another face.

A man wearing a paramedic uniform.

He wasn't trying to hurt her.

He kept whispering,

"Stay awake."

"Please stay awake."

"I'll get you out."

Natalie woke suddenly.

"There was someone..."

The night nurse approached.

"What happened?"

"The ambulance."

"What ambulance?"

"There was a paramedic."

She closed her eyes.

"He said his name was..."

Before she could finish—

The lights in her room went out.

The entire hospital wing fell into darkness.

Emergency alarms erupted.

Backup generators failed to activate.

Within seconds, panic spread through the intensive care unit.

Daniel instinctively reached for his flashlight.

"This isn't an accident."

Arthur turned toward Richard.

"Stay with Natalie."

"What about you?"

"I'm finding whoever cut the power."

Hidden in the maintenance corridor, dressed as an electrical contractor, a man removed his gloves.

He checked his phone.

A message appeared.

Power disabled. Five-minute window.

He smiled.

Then pulled a syringe from his tool bag.

On the label was no hospital barcode.

No manufacturer.

Just a handwritten word.

Phoenix.

He began walking toward Natalie's room.

At the same moment, Richard heard soft footsteps approaching through the dark hallway.

A silhouette stopped outside Natalie's door.

The handle slowly began to turn...
