CHAPTER 6 — The Daughter Who Never Died

CHAPTER 6 — The Daughter Who Never Died
No one moved.
Arthur stared at the woman as though he had seen a ghost.
"You..."
"You died twenty-eight years ago."
Victoria laughed bitterly.
"No."
"You buried the wrong daughter."
I looked between them in complete confusion.
Arthur whispered,
"Elizabeth..."
Victoria shook her head.
"My sister died."
"I survived."
My heart skipped.
"What are you saying?"
Victoria slowly walked toward me.
Tears filled her eyes.
"I am Victoria Frost."
"Elizabeth's twin sister."
"And..."
She stopped only inches away.
"...I am your biological aunt."
The world tilted.
Twins?
No one had ever mentioned twins.
Arthur lowered his head.
"I told everyone Victoria died in the car accident."
Victoria's eyes flashed with anger.
"You told them because I refused to help cover up Elizabeth's murder."
The word echoed through the terminal.
Murder.
Desmond looked stunned.
"What?"
Victoria pointed at Arthur.
"My sister wasn't kidnapped after giving birth."
"She was murdered."
Arthur slammed his cane against the floor.
"That's a lie!"
"Is it?"
Victoria reached into her coat.
She removed a small flash drive.
"I've spent twenty-eight years collecting evidence."
She handed it to Desmond.
"Every payment."
"Every phone call."
"Every witness."
"The entire conspiracy."
Desmond looked at Arthur.
His grandfather's hands were shaking.
For the first time in his life...
Arthur Frost looked afraid.
Just then, dozens of police cars surrounded the terminal.
FBI agents poured into the airport.
One agent walked straight toward Arthur.
"Arthur Frost."
"You're under investigation."
Arthur looked stunned.
"For what?"
The agent replied,
"Fraud."
"Money laundering."
"Kidnapping."
"And conspiracy to commit murder."
Passengers watched in disbelief as one of the richest men in America stood speechless.
Arthur slowly turned toward Victoria.
"You did this."
She nodded.
"No."
"You did."
"I simply survived long enough..."
"...to prove it."
As officers escorted Arthur away, one FBI agent approached me.
"Ms. Carter?"
"Yes?"
He handed me a sealed evidence bag.
"We recovered this from one of the suspects."
Inside was a photograph.
Not of me.
Not of Desmond.
Of the triplets.
Across the top, in thick black marker, were three horrifying words:
PHASE ONE FAILED
Below it...
another line.
ACTIVATE SUBJECT ZERO
The agent looked grim.
"We still don't know what Subject Zero means."
At that exact moment...
every light inside Atlanta Airport suddenly went dark.
Emergency alarms began screaming.
Then a child's voice echoed through the terminal speakers.
Soft.
Calm.
And terrifying.
"Hello, Maya..."
May you like
"You've finally found your family."
"But you've only uncovered half the truth."
