CHAPTER 6 – THE SECRET THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

CHAPTER 6 – THE SECRET THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING
Three days later, I received an unexpected phone call.
It was the resort manager.
"Sir... someone wants to meet your grandmother."
I frowned.
"Who?"
"The owner."
"The owner of the entire resort?"
"Yes."
The following weekend, we returned.
This time, the owner personally greeted Grandma at the entrance.
He was a man in his seventies with silver hair and kind eyes.
The moment he saw her, he stopped walking.
Then, to everyone's surprise...
He smiled through tears.
"I know you."
Grandma looked confused.
"I'm sorry... have we met?"
He nodded slowly.
"Forty-six years ago."
The memory came rushing back to him.
He had been a nineteen-year-old college student working as a lifeguard on this very beach.
One afternoon, a powerful rip current had dragged his younger sister far from shore.
Panic spread across the beach.
Adults froze.
Some screamed.
No one moved.
Except one woman.
A young nurse visiting on vacation.
She sprinted into the water without hesitation.
She reached the terrified little girl.
Held her above the waves.
And refused to let go until help arrived.
That nurse...
Was my grandmother.
"I never got the chance to thank you," the owner said, his voice breaking.
"My sister lived because of you."
Grandma stared at him for several seconds.
Then a faint smile appeared.
"Oh..."
"I remember her."
"She had little yellow sandals."
The owner laughed through his tears.
"She still has them."
He reached into his jacket pocket.
Inside was an old photograph.
The edges were worn.
The colors had faded.
It showed a soaked young woman wrapped in a towel, smiling shyly while holding the hand of a little girl wearing bright yellow sandals.
It was Grandma.
No one in our family had ever seen the picture.
The owner carefully placed it into Grandma's hands.
"I've carried this photograph for decades," he said.
"As a reminder that one stranger's kindness saved my family."
He looked around the resort.
"Today..."
"It is my turn to repay that kindness."
Grandma wiped away a tear.
"You already have."
He smiled gently.
May you like
"No."
"I've only just begun."
