The call ended in silence, but the young woman’s hand was still trembling as she remained seated on the cold stone driveway. The young woman did not answer immediately. Slowly, she picked up her bag, struggled to stand even though it was clear her chest hurt, and looked directly at her. “I’m not going to fight you,” she said quietly. “But that doesn’t mean I have no one to defend me.” The mother-in-law let out a mocking laugh. “Defend you? Looking like that? Don’t you dare threaten me in front of my own house.” The young woman’s eyes filled with tears, but she did not lower her gaze. “I’m not threatening you. I only told the truth.”
Only a few seconds passed before the loud sound of engines suddenly came from the corner. Several black cars stopped one after another in front of the mansion. The doors opened. Men in black suits stepped out, silent, but with firm and heavy movements. The mother-in-law’s face hardened. “What is this?” she murmured. From the middle car, the young woman’s father stepped out. He was dressed impeccably, his gaze cold, and every step he took across the driveway felt like a sentence. The rich woman stepped back. “You…” she said, stammering. The man approached his daughter and immediately held her shoulder. “Daughter, where did they hurt you?” The young woman answered weakly, “Here, Dad… but I’m okay.” Her father’s face darkened even more. “No. This is not okay.”
