EPILOGUE – A DIFFERENT KIND OF HOME

EPILOGUE – A DIFFERENT KIND OF HOME
Six months later.
The newspapers across Chicago carried an unexpected headline.
VOLKOV FOUNDATION OPENS FREE TRAUMA CENTER ON SOUTH SIDE.
No one knew who had funded it.
No one recognized the quiet man who occasionally visited before sunrise.
The old mansion had been sold.
Its underground tunnels sealed forever.
Kirill now managed a legitimate security company.
Mrs. Petrova supervised the foundation's kitchens.
Sloan ran the café inside the medical center, where every customer was greeted with the same warmth she had once shown a frightened young waitress.
As for Damon Volkov...
He disappeared from public life.
At least, that's what people believed.
On a quiet autumn afternoon, a little girl wandered into the foundation café after scraping her knee on the sidewalk.
She tried not to cry.
A woman knelt beside her.
"It's all right," Alina said gently as she cleaned the tiny cut.
The child looked around nervously.
"Are shots going to hurt?"
Alina smiled.
"Not today."
Behind the counter, Sloan chuckled.
"You're getting good at that."
"I had a good teacher."
At that moment, the front door opened.
A tall man in a simple dark sweater walked in carrying two cups of coffee.
There were no bodyguards.
No expensive suits.
No fear following him.
Only quiet.
He placed one cup beside Alina.
"You skipped breakfast."
She smiled.
"So did you."
He shrugged.
"I brought coffee."
She laughed.
"Some things never change."
He reached for her hand.
This time...
No hesitation.
No fear.
No blood.
Just warmth.
The same warmth she had felt the first morning he caught her wrist before the coffee tray could fall.
Only now, neither of them let go.
Outside, Chicago continued to rush past.
Inside the small café, no one recognized the former king of the city's underworld or the waitress who had changed his life.
They simply looked like two ordinary people sharing coffee.
And for Damon Volkov, after a lifetime of violence, power, and loneliness...
May you like
Ordinary had become the greatest luxury he had ever known.
The End.
