Epilogue – The Window

Epilogue – The Window
One year later, Emily and Sophie moved into a small yellow house across town.
It wasn't perfect.
The roof creaked when it rained.
The kitchen was tiny.
The backyard needed work.
But every window opened.
On the first evening in their new home, Sophie stood by the living-room window.
Sunlight spilled across her face.
Emily walked over.
"What are you looking at?"
Sophie smiled.
"The neighbors."
A little boy across the street waved.
Without hesitation—
Sophie waved back.
No fear.
No permission.
No invisible rule telling her to stay still.
Just a child saying hello.
Emily wrapped an arm around her daughter.
"You know," she said softly, "if you ever feel scared again, you never have to whisper."
Sophie leaned against her.
"I know."
After a moment, she looked up.
"Mom?"
"Yes?"
"Thank you for coming."
Emily kissed the top of her daughter's head.
"I'll always come."
Outside, children laughed as bicycles rolled down the sidewalk.
Windows stood open.
Curtains fluttered gently in the breeze.
And for the first time in a very long while, Sophie understood what home was never meant to be.
It wasn't a place where love demanded silence.
May you like
It was a place where even the smallest voice would always be heard.
The End.
