Epilogue

One year later.

The old mansion felt different.

Less like a fortress.

More like a home.

The twins raced through the gardens, healthy enough to outrun every exhausted bodyguard assigned to them.

Daniel chased after them, laughing.

Mr. Buttons—the worn stuffed rabbit with one missing eye—still occupied a place of honor in the playroom.

No one dared replace him.

Inside the kitchen, Marlene prepared dinner while Rosa pretended not to steal pieces of fresh bread.

Walter continued insisting he disliked children.

The children continued proving him wrong.

Roland stood quietly on the terrace, watching them all.

Power had once meant fear.

Now it meant protecting the people who trusted him.

Daniel ran over carrying the repaired silver pendant.

"Mr. Castellano!"

Roland smiled.

"You don't have to call me 'Mister.'"

Daniel tilted his head.

"What should I call you?"

Roland looked toward Marlene.

She smiled softly.

"Whatever feels right."

Daniel thought for a moment.

Then he grinned.

"Uncle Roland."

Roland's eyes glistened.

"I think..."

He placed a gentle hand on the boy's shoulder.

"...I'd like that."

As the evening sun settled over the garden, Marlene watched three laughing boys disappear among the trees.

For years, she had believed grief was the final chapter of her story.

She had been wrong.

Sometimes life hides its greatest miracle beyond the page where hope seems to end.

And on that quiet evening, with her son's hand in hers and laughter filling the air, Marlene finally understood that love, though delayed by cruelty and stolen years, had found its way home at last.
