CHAPTER 8: “FLIGHT 1147 WAS ONLY THE BEGINNING”

CHAPTER 8: “FLIGHT 1147 WAS ONLY THE BEGINNING”

Three days later.

SkySpan Airlines issued a public statement.

It did not mention Brianna Hale by name.

It did not mention coffee.

It did not mention seat 24C.

It simply announced:

“A full internal restructuring of cabin conduct oversight and real-time executive auditing systems has been implemented following a verified in-flight incident involving executive observation.”

The industry called it unusual.

Analysts called it aggressive.

Employees called it terrifying.

Because now every flight had a question hovering over it:

Is he on this one?

Kylie stood again at Gate B17.

Same airport.

Same noise.

But she wasn’t the same person.

She had been promoted.

Not because she asked.

Because Caden Reed had watched her.

And remembered her silence—and her one act of speaking up.

The boarding announcement echoed through the terminal.

“SkySpan Flight 221 to Dallas now boarding…”

Kylie glanced down the jet bridge.

Passengers were already forming lines.

Business travelers. Families. A man arguing into a phone. A woman holding a sleeping child.

Ordinary chaos.

But she saw it differently now.

She saw behavior in layers.

She saw tone before words.

She saw power before titles.

“Still thinking about him?” a coworker asked beside her.

Kylie hesitated.

Then nodded once.

“Yes.”

The coworker smirked. “People say he still flies sometimes.”

Kylie looked up sharply. “Still?”

“Yeah,” the coworker said. “Random routes. No warning. No pattern.”

A pause.

“Like he never really left the cabin.”

Kylie felt a chill crawl up her spine.

Because now she understood something deeper than fear.

It wasn’t that Caden Reed was everywhere.

It was that he had proven he could be anywhere.

And systems behave differently when they believe they are observed.

The boarding call continued.

Kylie straightened her uniform, took a breath, and stepped toward the gate.

As she did, she noticed something on the manifest screen.

Seat assignments populating.

One passenger still unassigned.

Seat 24C.

Her fingers paused over the keyboard.

A message blinked briefly in the system header:

“EXECUTIVE AUDIT ACTIVE — OBSERVATION STATUS: UNKNOWN”

Kylie exhaled slowly.

Then assigned the seat.

May you like

And for the first time since Flight 1147, she wondered not what had already happened…

…but what was still waiting to be seen.
