CHAPTER 3: THE GIRL WHO SHOULDN'T HAVE KNOWN

CHAPTER 3: THE GIRL WHO SHOULDN'T HAVE KNOWN

By midnight, something impossible was happening.

Mateo's oxygen levels were rising.

His heart rhythm was stabilizing.

Doctors filled the room.

Specialists checked equipment twice.

Nothing explained it.

One cardiologist shook his head.

"This doesn't make medical sense."

Emma simply sat beside the bed.

Quiet.

Patient.

Holding her rag doll.

At 12:14 a.m., Mateo opened his eyes.

Julian nearly collapsed.

"Mateo!"

The little boy blinked weakly.

"Daddy?"

Julian broke into tears.

The room erupted.

Nurses cried.

Doctors smiled.

For the first time all night, hope entered the suite.

Then Emma suddenly stood.

Her small face turned pale.

Very pale.

She looked toward the doorway.

"She's here."

Sarah frowned.

"Who?"

Emma's voice trembled.

"The lady who hurt us."

The elevator doors opened.

Rebecca Del Valle stepped into the hallway.

Perfect hair.

Designer coat.

Diamond earrings.

And absolutely no idea that her entire world was about to collapse.

She entered smiling.

Then saw Sarah.

Saw Emma.

Saw Julian's face.

And stopped.

The silence was terrifying.

Julian slowly placed a folder on the table.

The old HR file.

The financial records.

The pension transfers.

The forged approvals.

Everything security investigators had uncovered within the last two hours.

Rebecca's expression cracked.

"You went through those files?"

Julian stood.

His voice remained calm.

Too calm.

"Tell me I am wrong."

Rebecca said nothing.

"Tell me Sarah's husband wasn't destroyed because of you."

Still silence.

Then Rebecca whispered the worst possible answer.

"I did what was necessary."

Sarah began crying.

Julian felt something die inside him.

Twenty years of marriage.

Gone.

One sentence had buried it all.

May you like

But Rebecca still had one final secret.

And this one was even darker.
