Epilogue

Epilogue

A few weeks after Penelope's fourteenth birthday, we opened a package that had arrived without a return address.

Inside was the official program from the National Young Performers Dance Competition.

The page with Penelope's name had been carefully framed.

Tucked behind it was a handwritten note.

It contained only one sentence:

"Thank you for reminding us that great teachers build confidence—they never destroy it."

There was no signature.

There didn't need to be one.

I hung the frame in our living room.

Not because it celebrated a championship.

But because it reminded us of a lesson worth keeping forever:

The people who tell you that you are "not enough" do not get the final word.

The final word belongs to the courage you find when you refuse to quit.
