CHAPTER 6 – THE CEO WHO LOST EVERYTHING IN ONE MORNING

CHAPTER 6 – THE CEO WHO LOST EVERYTHING IN ONE MORNING
At 8:00 a.m. the next morning, Dominic walked into VanceTech determined to fight.
He rehearsed his speech in the elevator.
He would reassure investors.
Calm employees.
Stabilize the company.
He stepped onto the executive floor.
Something immediately felt wrong.
His executive assistant wasn't at her desk.
His office door was locked.
Two uniformed security officers stood outside.
One stepped forward.
"Good morning, Mr. Vance."
Dominic frowned.
"What are you doing here?"
The officer handed him an envelope.
"Per instructions from the Board of Directors..."
"...your executive access has been suspended."
Dominic laughed.
"Move."
"I'm the CEO."
"I'm sorry, sir."
"You were."
Those two words echoed through the hallway.
Employees had begun gathering.
Nobody spoke.
Nobody smiled.
Some avoided eye contact.
Others simply watched.
The elevator doors opened again.
Chairman Harold Sinclair walked out with the company's attorneys.
He stopped in front of Dominic.
"The vote is complete."
Dominic stared at him.
"What vote?"
Harold handed him the official resolution.
BOARD RESOLUTION
Effective immediately, Dominic Vance is removed as Chief Executive Officer of VanceTech by unanimous vote.
Dominic looked up in disbelief.
"Unanimous?"
Harold nodded.
"Even your earliest investors voted in favor."
"They betrayed me."
"No."
Harold answered calmly.
"They protected the company."
Dominic's voice cracked.
"You can't erase me."
Harold looked at him for a long moment.
Then he said quietly,
"No, Dominic."
"You erased yourself the moment you mistook loyalty for ownership."
The security officer stepped forward once more.
"We'll escort you while you collect your personal belongings."
Dominic slowly turned toward the glass walls of the office he had dreamed about since his twenties.
The nameplate bearing DOMINIC VANCE – CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER was already gone.
In its place...
There was only an empty space.
Outside the building, reporters had begun gathering.
News alerts flashed across phones across New York.
TECH CEO REMOVED AFTER CORPORATE GOVERNANCE CRISIS.
BROOKS GLOBAL ENDS SUPPORT FOR VANCETECH.
MYSTERY HEIRESS IDENTIFIED AS CEO'S ESTRANGED WIFE.
Standing across the street, inside the back seat of a black sedan, Audrey watched silently.
Charles sat beside her.
"Do you regret it?" he asked softly.
Audrey looked through the window as Dominic exited the building carrying a single cardboard box containing the remnants of the life he had built.
She watched him pause on the sidewalk, surrounded by cameras, with nowhere left to hide.
After a long silence, she answered,
"I regret loving someone who stopped valuing his family."
She looked down at Leo sleeping peacefully in his carrier.
"But I will never regret leaving... because my son deserves to grow up seeing what respect looks like."
Charles smiled with quiet pride.
"Then today isn't the end."
Audrey gently kissed Leo's forehead.
"No."
May you like
"It's the first day of our new life."
Neither she nor Dominic realized that another secret—one even more devastating than his affairs—was about to surface, a secret hidden deep within Brooks Global's old files that would reveal Dominic's betrayal had begun long before he ever slipped a wedding ring onto Audrey's finger.
