CHAPTER 5 – A FATHER DECLARES WAR

CHAPTER 5 – A FATHER DECLARES WAR
No one moved.
The narrow hallway felt smaller than a coffin.
Marcus Valentino stood bleeding, his pistol aimed directly at the man who had built the Valentino empire from nothing.
His father.
Don Alessandro Valentino.
The old man did not flinch.
Instead, he smiled with quiet disappointment.
"You finally point a gun at me."
Marcus's finger tightened around the trigger.
"You ordered the murder of my wife."
"I ordered the protection of our family."
"You ordered the death of my child."
Don Alessandro's eyes hardened.
"That child is the end of everything I spent forty years creating."
Behind Marcus, Maya instinctively wrapped both arms around her stomach.
The baby kicked again.
Strong.
Alive.
A painful reminder of everything she stood to lose.
Charlotte watched in stunned silence.
She had known Alessandro since she was a teenager.
He was ruthless.
Calculating.
But she had never imagined he would order the execution of his own grandchild.
"You don't understand," Alessandro said calmly.
"The Moretti Syndicate doesn't want territory anymore."
"They want your heir."
Marcus frowned.
"My heir?"
"The child."
The words echoed through the hallway.
Everyone looked toward Maya.
Alessandro continued.
"Three years ago, before your marriage collapsed, our accountants discovered something."
He reached into his coat and removed a faded document.
"A bloodline trust."
Marcus's expression changed.
"No..."
"The Valentino fortune isn't entirely ours."
Charlotte blinked.
"What are you talking about?"
Alessandro tossed the papers onto the marble floor.
Maya picked them up.
Her eyes widened.
The document was over eighty years old.
It carried signatures from New York judges, banking executives, and several names she recognized from history books.
A clause had been highlighted.
'The controlling ownership of the Valentino Global Trust shall pass only to the first legitimate biological heir born from the direct bloodline of Marcus Valentino.'
Maya looked up slowly.
"The baby..."
Alessandro nodded.
"...will legally control assets worth nearly twenty-three billion dollars before taking a first breath."
Silence.
Even Marcus looked shocked.
"My grandfather never told me."
"He wasn't supposed to."
The old man's voice carried no emotion.
"The trust was designed during the war to prevent hostile takeovers."
Charlotte whispered,
"So every rival family..."
"...needs this baby dead."
Alessandro nodded once.
"Or alive."
Marcus suddenly understood.
The attack at the boutique had never been about revenge.
It had been about inheritance.
His child had become the single most valuable person in New York.
Not because of blood.
Because of power.
He slowly lowered his pistol.
Not out of surrender.
Out of realization.
This war had already begun months ago.
He had simply been the last person to know.
An explosion shook the building.
The hallway lights flickered.
Luca ran toward them.
"Boss!"
"What?"
"The Morettis have surrounded the entire block!"
Marcus looked out a shattered window.
More than thirty black SUVs had filled Fifth Avenue.
Snipers occupied nearby rooftops.
Police cars arrived...
Only to quietly drive away.
Bought.
Every one of them.
Alessandro smiled.
"You've already lost."
Marcus turned toward him.
"No."
"You have."
Before anyone understood what he meant—
Marcus pressed a hidden button beneath his watch.
A low mechanical hum echoed beneath the building.
Charlotte frowned.
"What was that?"
Marcus looked directly at his father.
"You taught me to prepare for betrayal."
The marble floor suddenly trembled.
Then—
An entire section of the boutique rotated open.
A concealed underground elevator slowly rose from beneath the floor.
Luca stared.
"I didn't know about this."
"No one did."
Marcus had secretly built an escape network beneath Manhattan years earlier.
Not even his own family knew it existed.
Alessandro's confident smile vanished.
"You hid this from me."
May you like
Marcus answered quietly.
"I stopped trusting everyone a long time ago."
