CHAPTER 6 — THE SANCTUARY FILES

CHAPTER 6 — THE SANCTUARY FILES
The hidden chamber stretched far beneath the Cavalari estate.
It wasn't a bunker.
It was an underground research facility.
Rows of laboratories lined the walls.
Cryogenic storage units hummed softly.
Shelves held thousands of sealed medical samples.
Everything had been abandoned years ago.
Yet every surface remained spotless.
Mr. Romano noticed my confusion.
"Elena insisted it always be kept ready."
"For what?"
"For the day you returned."
My heart skipped.
"She knew I'd come here?"
He nodded.
"She planned for every possibility except dying."
He stopped before a reinforced vault.
Unlike every other lock, this one required neither a key nor a code.
Only a fingerprint.
He gently took my hand.
"I apologize."
He pressed my thumb against the scanner.
The vault unlocked immediately.
Inside rested a single black case.
My name was engraved across the lid.
MIA ELENA ROSSI
Not Bennett.
Rossi.
The surname felt foreign.
Yet somehow... familiar.
Inside the case were three objects.
My mother's laboratory notebook.
A flash drive.
And a handwritten letter.
With trembling hands, I unfolded the letter.
My dearest Mia,
If you are reading this, then someone has finally found what I spent my life hiding.
There is one truth I could never tell you while I was alive.
I am not your biological mother.
The words blurred through my tears.
"I don't understand..."
Victoria covered her mouth.
Sofia stood frozen.
The heir silently read over my shoulder.
The letter continued.
I found you twenty-three years ago during the bloodiest night our family ever survived.
You were only six weeks old.
Everyone believed the child of Project Heir had died.
They were wrong.
You lived.
I became your mother the moment I carried you out of that burning house.
I couldn't breathe.
Everything I believed about my life crumbled in seconds.
"My entire childhood..."
"...was a lie."
Mr. Romano gently shook his head.
"No."
"It was the only truth Elena could give you."
The heir suddenly became unnaturally quiet.
He kept staring at one page inside the laboratory notebook.
"What is it?" Victoria asked.
Without answering, he turned the notebook toward us.
A family tree.
At the center stood my photograph.
A red line connected my picture...
...to his.
The relationship label beneath it read only two words.
First Cousins.
The room fell silent.
Victoria whispered,
"No..."
"My brother's child survived."
Every eye slowly turned toward me.
If the notebook was correct...
I wasn't simply connected to the Cavalari family.
I had been born into it.
Before anyone could process the revelation, the flash drive inside the case activated automatically as the vault lights powered on.
A holographic security message appeared.
My mother's recorded image looked directly at me.
Her expression was urgent.
"If this message is playing..."
"...then Alessandro has already learned who Mia really is."
She paused.
Then delivered the one revelation that changed everything again.
"He is not trying to kill her."
"He never was."
The room froze.
My mother's image continued.
"He needs Mia alive..."
"...because only her DNA can unlock the final formula."
At that exact moment, every alarm inside the Sanctuary screamed.
Mr. Romano's face lost all color.
He looked toward the blast door as heavy impacts echoed from the other side.
Boom.
Boom.
Boom.
Someone was using military-grade explosives.
A computerized voice announced calmly:
"Vault breach estimated in... ninety seconds."
Then Alessandro's voice echoed through the underground speakers.
"Family reunion is over."
May you like
"Mia..."
"...come meet your real father."
