CHAPTER 6 – THE SECRET IN LEO'S DRAWING

CHAPTER 6 – THE SECRET IN LEO'S DRAWING

The map reached the mansion before we did.

Leo was sitting exactly where we had left him.

The piano untouched.

The drawing spread across the floor.

Dante knelt beside his son.

"Where did Mommy give you this?"

Leo answered without looking up.

"In the blue book."

"When?"

"The day before the loud men came."

Dante's hands trembled.

That was five years ago.

Leo had hidden the map inside the book...

and forgotten it until now.

The map appeared childish.

But Elena had been an architect before marrying Dante.

She never drew meaningless lines.

Victor spread it across the dining table.

"There."

He pointed to four tiny circles.

"They're not trees."

"What are they?"

"They match old subway ventilation shafts beneath Manhattan."

Another guard compared the sketch to city blueprints.

His eyes widened.

"They line up perfectly."

Dante looked at the final marking.

A blue star.

"What does that represent?"

No one knew.

Until Leo quietly spoke.

"Blue means safe."

I smiled softly.

Of course.

During our lessons, he'd taught me that colors had meanings.

Blue wasn't just a color.

It meant protection.

"It isn't a star," I said.

"It's a safe place."

Within an hour, Dante assembled a small team.

No army.

No convoy.

Just six trusted people.

Including me.

"You shouldn't come," he said.

"I know."

"But I'm coming anyway."

He didn't argue.

Somehow, we had all become part of the same story.

The location led us beneath an abandoned subway platform closed decades earlier.

Dust covered everything.

The silence felt unnatural.

Leo walked beside me, holding the edge of my blue sleeve exactly as he had at the wedding.

Halfway down the tunnel, he suddenly stopped.

"Listen."

Everyone became still.

Very faintly...

Four piano notes echoed through the darkness.

The exact melody.

Dante drew his weapon.

We followed the sound.

It led to an old maintenance room hidden behind a rusted steel door.

Inside stood a single upright piano.

No one was playing it.

Yet one key slowly lifted by itself.

Then another.

Then another.

The melody repeated.

Victor searched the room.

"It's mechanical."

He reached behind the piano and discovered an old clockwork device connected to the keys.

Someone had built it to play automatically.

But why?

I examined the music stand.

There was a sealed envelope.

Addressed simply:

To Dante.

Inside was a letter.

Not a copy.

Not a forgery.

Elena's unmistakable handwriting filled every page.

Dante began reading aloud.

If you are holding this letter, then I failed to come home myself.

Do not trust anyone who tells you I died willingly.

I uncovered something inside our own family that reaches beyond New York... beyond America.

If they realize Leo remembers the melody, they will come for him.

Dante stopped reading.

His face drained of color.

There was one final sentence at the bottom.

One that changed everything.

The man you call your brother... betrayed us first.

Silence consumed the room.

Dante had no brother.

Not anymore.

He had supposedly died in a car explosion twelve years earlier.

Very slowly, Dante folded the letter.

Then he whispered,

"If Alessandro is alive..."

A sudden click echoed through the tunnel.

Victor looked up sharply.

May you like

"Everyone down!"

An explosion ripped through the maintenance room, and the entire ceiling began to collapse as shadows emerged from the smoke, weapons raised. The hunt for Elena had become a war.
