CHAPTER 3: THE MAN FROM THE SUV

CHAPTER 3: THE MAN FROM THE SUV

The entire beach fell silent.

Amber's scream echoed across the shoreline.

The man who stepped out of the black SUV wasn't dressed like a businessman.

He looked dangerous.

Calm.

Controlled.

The kind of man who never needed to raise his voice.

Amber staggered backward.

"No."

Her voice cracked.

"No, no, no..."

The man began walking toward the ceremony.

Every step seemed deliberate.

Ryan's face turned pale.

"What is he doing here?"

That caught my attention immediately.

Ryan knew him.

The man stopped in front of the wedding guests.

Then he looked directly at Amber.

"You should have answered my calls."

Amber looked like she might faint.

"Please..."

The man laughed.

Not loudly.

Not kindly.

Just enough to make everyone uncomfortable.

Then he turned toward the giant screen.

"So."

His eyes moved across the frozen DNA report.

"The truth finally came out."

Ryan stepped forward.

"Leave."

The man looked at him.

For several seconds.

Then smiled.

"You really think you're the victim here?"

The beach became very quiet.

Because nobody understood what was happening.

Then the stranger dropped the bomb.

"Amber isn't pregnant with your child."

Everyone already knew that.

But he wasn't finished.

He pointed toward himself.

"The baby is mine."

Gasps erupted.

Ryan looked physically sick.

Amber burst into tears.

And suddenly the entire affair looked even uglier than before.

For months, Ryan had believed Amber was carrying his baby.

Months.

That was why he had been acting strangely.

That was why he wanted control of the company.

That was why he kept delaying financial decisions.

Because he believed he needed a future with Amber.

But Amber had lied.

About everything.

The stranger pulled out his phone.

"I have messages too."

Amber closed her eyes.

Defeated.

The messages appeared on the giant screen.

This time nobody stopped him.

Nobody wanted to.

The guests watched as text after text appeared.

Promises.

Lies.

Manipulation.

Amber had been seeing both men simultaneously.

Using Ryan for money.

Using the other man for protection.

Neither one knew the full story.

Until now.

Ryan turned toward Amber.

"You said it was mine."

Tears streamed down her face.

"I had to."

"You lied to me."

"You lied to Isabella!"

Amber shouted back.

The words stunned everyone.

Even Ryan.

Because for the first time all day...

Amber wasn't pretending anymore.

She pointed directly at him.

"You used her!"

Then at herself.

"And you used me!"

The crowd watched in shock.

Years of secrets were exploding in real time.

Ryan's carefully constructed image was collapsing.

Amber's fantasy was collapsing.

Everything was collapsing.

Then a sharp pain hit me.

I froze.

My hand instantly moved to my stomach.

Another pain followed.

Stronger.

My mother noticed first.

"Isabella?"

The world suddenly blurred.

Not from emotion.

From contractions.

My daughter had chosen this exact moment to arrive.

The entire wedding stopped.

Drama no longer mattered.

Affairs no longer mattered.

Lies no longer mattered.

Because life had just interrupted chaos.

"I'm in labor."

The words changed everything.

Within seconds, guests moved.

Doctors who happened to be attending rushed forward.

My bridesmaids formed a protective circle around me.

Ryan instinctively stepped closer.

I looked directly at him.

"Don't."

One word.

He stopped.

Because some doors only close once.

May you like

And his had just closed forever.
