Epilogue

Epilogue

One year later, Daniel stood outside the grand opening of a new community restaurant in downtown Seattle.

Unlike his luxury restaurants, this one followed a simple promise printed beside the entrance:

"No child will ever be turned away hungry."

Anyone who could pay was welcome.

Anyone who couldn't would eat anyway.

No questions asked.

Inside, one wall displayed hundreds of children's drawings.

Right in the center hung a picture that Daniel had framed.

A smiling man.

A little girl.

A mother.

All holding hands beneath an enormous yellow sun.

Across the top, written in uneven crayon letters, were the words:

Families help each other stand.

Sofia, now six years old, ran through the dining room wearing bright red sneakers Daniel had given her on her birthday.

She stopped in front of him.

"Race you to the door!"

Daniel laughed.

"You're going to win."

"I know!"

She dashed across the room.

Daniel followed behind.

Not in a wheelchair.

Not as fast as she could run.

But on his own two feet.

Maria watched them from the counter, smiling with grateful eyes.

Elena stood beside her, helping serve lunch to families.

Grace welcomed new guests through the front door.

Daniel paused for a moment before stepping outside into the warm spring sunshine.

A year earlier, he had believed his life was over.

He thought losing the ability to walk had been his greatest tragedy.

He had been wrong.

His greatest tragedy had been believing that hope had left him forever.

It returned in the smallest way imaginable.

Not through another billionaire.

Not through another doctor.

Not through another business opportunity.

It arrived barefoot...

Carrying an empty cloth bag...

Asking for leftover food...

And offering a prayer without expecting anything in return.

Daniel looked toward the bright blue sky and smiled.

Some miracles happen in operating rooms.

Some happen in rehabilitation centers.

But the ones that last forever...

May you like

Begin in the human heart.

The End.
