CHAPTER 8 — The Last King Falls

CHAPTER 8 — The Last King Falls
The church became a battlefield.
Victor and Gabriel fought side by side.
Marco's rescue team stormed through the rear entrance, pinning down the attackers.
Sophia remained hidden beneath the stone altar exactly as Victor had instructed.
Within minutes, bodies covered the church floor.
Then silence.
Only one man remained standing.
An elderly gentleman in an immaculate black suit.
Silver hair.
Walking cane.
No fear.
He smiled at Victor.
"Good evening."
Victor recognized him instantly.
Senator Richard Coleman.
"No..." Victor whispered.
Coleman laughed.
"The senator never existed."
He removed a thin silicone mask from his face.
Underneath was another man entirely.
Older.
Sharper.
The true leader of the Thirteenth Crown.
"My name is Lucien Armand."
"For thirty years I've watched your family."
Victor raised his pistol.
"You murdered my father."
Lucien nodded.
"He refused to surrender the child."
"What child?"
Lucien looked directly into Victor's eyes.
"You."
Silence filled the church.
Lucien continued.
"You were never Alessandro Moretti's biological son."
Victor's breathing stopped.
"He rescued you from us."
"He chose to raise you as his own."
"That decision destroyed his family."
Every secret suddenly made sense.
The missing photographs.
The warnings.
Matteo's disappearance.
Isabella's manipulation.
The endless attempts to erase Victor.
Lucien smiled sadly.
"You were born to inherit my empire."
"But Alessandro taught you love instead of obedience."
Victor lowered his weapon.
For just a moment.
Lucien reached inside his coat.
A hidden pistol appeared.
Before he could fire—
A single shot echoed through the church.
Gabriel.
The bullet struck Lucien squarely in the chest.
The old man collapsed.
His reign ended where his lies did.
EPILOGUE — A Different Kind of Family
Six months later...
The Thirteenth Crown no longer existed.
Its leaders had been arrested or killed after Gabriel turned over decades of secret records to international authorities.
Isabella was captured while attempting to flee the country under a false identity. At trial, she confessed that greed had blinded her, but her apologies came too late. She was sentenced to spend the rest of her life behind bars.
Matteo's fate was finally uncovered. Years earlier, he had been kidnapped by the Thirteenth Crown and manipulated into helping them. Before he could face Victor, he died protecting investigators during the final raid, leaving behind a letter asking his brother's forgiveness.
Victor inherited everything Lucien had once controlled.

He dismantled it.
Instead of expanding a criminal empire, he sold its hidden assets, compensated innocent families harmed by years of violence, and cooperated with authorities to expose corrupt officials who had protected the organization.
As for Gabriel Varga, the world's most feared assassin disappeared without a trace after the final battle. The only clue he left behind was a handwritten note:
"A man isn't defined by the life he was born into, but by the life he chooses."
Victor kept it in his father's study.
Sophia and Antonio never returned to the gardener's cottage.
Victor insisted they move into the main house.
He legally adopted Sophia after learning she had no surviving relatives beyond Antonio, whose failing health prevented him from caring for her alone. Antonio spent his remaining years surrounded by peace instead of fear, watching the little girl who had once saved a mafia boss become the daughter that healed his broken home.
One spring morning, Sophia looked up at Victor while they planted new cypress trees along the edge of the estate.
"Do you still hide behind trees?" she asked with a grin.
Victor laughed.
"Only when a very smart little girl tells me to."
She slipped her small hand into his.
"Then I'll keep protecting you."
Victor smiled.
"No, sweetheart."
He looked toward the sunrise beyond the gardens where his old life had nearly ended.
"From now on..."
"I'm the one who protects you."

And for the first time in many years, Victor Moretti walked forward without bodyguards, without fear, and without the weight of a bloody legacy on his shoulders—guided not by power, but by the courage of a seven-year-old girl who had changed his destiny with a single whispered warning:
"Stay quiet and follow me."
