Chapter 1 : At the restaurant

"A 7-year-old girl tapped a silent SOS on her skirt. Her mother smiled. ""Say hi to the bikers, sweetie,"" she cooed, her nails digging into the child’s arm until a dark bruise peeked out. ""Let her go,"" I growled. The girl gasped and dropped a crumpled note. I opened it, and my blood ran cold... The roar of dozens of motorcycle engines echoed across the parking lot.
Laughter filled the air.
Then suddenly—
Everything stopped.
Not because of a fight.
Not because of a siren.
But because of a little girl.
The moment the woman beside her spoke in a sweet, gentle voice, the child froze.
Her bright eyes dropped to the ground.
Her tiny fingers began tapping against her faded skirt.
Three short taps.
Three long taps.
Again.
And again.
I couldn't look away.
Something felt wrong.
Very wrong.
When Big Mike stepped forward and offered her a shiny silver coin, the woman's grip on the girl's arm tightened instantly.
For a brief second, her perfect smile disappeared.
Just long enough for all of us to notice.
The girl winced.
Then a crumpled piece of paper slipped from her hand.
It rolled slowly across the pavement.
Straight toward my boots.
Nobody spoke.
Nobody moved.
The woman saw it too.
And her expression changed immediately.
I bent down.
Picked up the note.
On the outside, written in shaky handwriting, were just a few words:
""If anyone reads this... please don't let her take me away.""
When I looked back up—
The woman was no longer smiling.

And for the first time...
I realized she was afraid of something far worse than being exposed."
